hvx200 price real or gimmick?

that confirms my suspicion - knew it was too good to be true - usually if it looks to good to be true it is .........

It's probably another "sucker price" shop where they lure you in with an insanely low price on a big ticket item, then *insist* that you buy insanely overpriced accessories and/or pay insanely high shipping charges. One site I saw actually bases the shipping price on the item price - so overnight on a $5000 item is like $900. Completely insane.

I think these places are designed to game the "price engine" shopping sites like bizrate.com and nextag.com so they "win" on the lowest price, attracting a lot of hits to their site. Then you look at the other prices and see the real story. Like $30 for a DV tape, $180 for a standard battery, etc. Most people here (like you, now) have been warned to avoid these places like the plague, so you won't find direct experince or sad stories about dealing with these sharks on boards like this. For that you should go to a site like bizrate, search on something like an HVX, click on a low-price "ringer" and read the buyer's comments. You'll have to use you own B.S. filter to weed out the accompanying "ringer" comments though - it appears that these sellers load the comments pages with fake praise for themselves. Look for the negative comments about the accessory/shipping prices and policies. You'll get the real story there...

I wondered this same thing. I also tried to find a good price but I couldn't find one from any company that is reputable so I'll probably go to pbphoto.com and order when I get the $. I also emailed Panasonic and asked about their warranty. They only validate the warranty from "authorized resellers" which is pretty important.

This is their reply to my email...

Hello,
Yes, the product must be purchased from a Panasonic Authorized Dealer in order for the warranty to be valid. Panasonic Authorized Dealers can be identified by visiting the following website and www.panasonic.com/broadcast
And then clicking on "HOW TO BUY".
Regards,
