HVX200 on blueray. How does it look?

So I own Cloverfield which was partially shot on the hvx200. And the blueray looks amazing. However I am assuming they are using some high price encoder. Has anyone burned some of their footage to blueray on their desktops? How does it hold up in quality?

I've been burning blu-ray discs for two years, Roxio's DVDit HD Pro (on PC).

In all cases the end result when viewed on my 40" Sony Bravia, the results have been jaw dropping. I have been "more than satisfied." This is the reason I went HD in the first place . . . not much point (for me) to shoot in HD if I couldn't demonstrate the product to others (in HD) in a way that conveniently shares that result.

I have Encore CS4 too but the whole process appears to be significantly faster with DVDit.

And yes, I believe you are probably correct, that studios use a high(er) end program to encode their product.

Best.

Are you moving you DVCProHD footage from Mac to DVDitHDPro?

If you are, what codec are you using to encoder on a PC?

I've been looking at this app for a while but became concerned about player compatibility. How have you found it to be? Do your BD's play properly on most or all the players you've tried?

My friend just got a blueray burner. Using TOAST to burn footage he outputted a disc and played it on his sony blue ray player. It played beautifully. However he gave me the copy to take home and view on my PS3. To my dismay it plays it cropped into the top half of the screen. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I played regular dvds and some blue rays after this and they played fine.

I think you need a blu ray player, not a blue ray player. :)

Seriously though, I've seen some squirrelly issues with Toast burned blu ray discs in the PS3s.

Not all seem to play correctly. No reason for it.

Davis S. I'm not sure but think you were asking me your question? Anyhow, if so . . .

Nope, I do not have any Apple products (except for my Ipod).

I gave up on AVID a couple of years ago. occasionally use CS4 products but my mainstay has been Edius Broadcast (and Procoder3). Reason is (and this has been discussed elsewhere) Broadcast does not care what you through at it, multiple mixed format . . . HD and SD, whatever, it's going to work (and not crash your machine).

I just use Procoder from within Broadcast and encode files specifically for DVDit Pro HD. Seems to work perfectly every time (I've been going this route since summer '07). Nice thing is that you can then burn your blu-ray and DVD from the same files in DVDit Pro.

There are probably better solutions but for ease and simplicity this particular workflow works for me.

Ted- My discs have always worked on the Samsung Blu-ray players I've owned. I have no experience with other brands or PS3.
