Cineporter is NOT coming!

I wonder if their cineporter 10% discount certificate can be used for something else. How about on P2 cards.

I was wondering/hoping for the discount applying to P2 cards too (didnt get around to emailing speccomm yet)

/me glances over at the cineporter discount sitting on the desk

Hey Guys, give Jasmine a call. She'll let you know what you can use the coupon on. Basically, we'll give you as much of a discount as we have margin, up to 10%. It's different on different items.

There definitely is a market for that, I personaly would love NOT to carry around two MBP with G-Raids, but the P2 store just doesn´t sell for me: too expensive, not enough disc space...
What do you say, Spec-Comm?

Even if it was 2,000$ im there. I want ot be able to shoot 1080i for long form. with a raided drive the copy time can be cut in half, thus, making the ovelap of 2 8gig p2 cards workable. if it offloaded in 6 minutes as opposed o 8 minutes notmally. This way, it makes the need for 16, 32 gigeers unneccesary, and it can hold LOTS more.

Timur,
at 2K I´d rather get 3 x 16 Gig P2s and keep offloading to a laptop (if I need to...).
Along with my 8Gigs I´d have one hour of 1080p, with enough time to offload in between...
P2 will get cheaper and cheaper, this P2 offload device should have such an attractive pricepoint that adding it as an instant backup is a no brainer - why should I back up in the field if recording time is long enough and P2 cheap enough?

im not looking for an hour though, and i cant be bothered by a laptop. i need like 3 hours on foot.

First Cinemek, now this, and possibly red. Another blow for an indie-like product.

RED is coming out.... it sbeing used already on projects.

Not yet. They say they'll have a shipping schedule by mid June. They've also just announced another zoom lens to go along with the 18-50mm and the prime set. It will be a 50-150mm T3 (F2.8). All the lenses should be available by the end of 07. No word on the 18-85 though.

To be honest... who would spend that much on 250GB of footage? Better yet, who really needs 500 GB of footage on one disk? I always had a feeling that the cineporter would not work well in many cases with a dolly/tripod/grip mount. All of that extra weight on the bottom of the camera.

Then again... if you are a company/network that has a high end budget, i can understand how this could be a downer. (I would rather pay that money in P2 cards.) I couldn't imagine filming 4 hours of HD footage only to have a corrupt file screw the whole thing up.

I dont think this is the end of cineporter. I think that they will bounce back with something crazy like 500GB in one drive (with the 1000GB option of mounting the two together.) The problem is affordability....and cost effectiveness. is $2-5,000 worth having 250GB-500GB for? Maybe in some cases.

there is one red camera in existence.....

and its very sought after.........

maybe they can take that they have learned from this, and put it into there own off brand p2 cards, like the h2. who knows if they work hard enough they may beet the herd to the 64gb, just a thought, it would be a shame to let all the time and money put into the r&d go to waist.
