HVX200 Live to FCP Firewire?

I've read here that this has been done?

Obvious you need a locked down camera, and a fairly long firewire cable, but for Pro50 or 100, is this possible?

Also, Apple is rumored to be introducing a 3 pound PB at MWSF.

Now that might be a nice set up

It doesn't need to be locked down. Just plug a firewire into both things, and you can capture anything. Including HD.

Anything pulling the cable could be bad for the camera connector that's true. That's why you need a point near the camera where you can clamp the cable (tripod, belt, ...). That way whatever is clamping it will take the strain and not the connectors...

I wonder, if in addition to that, some sort of a quick disconnect (connector that would slip apart relatively easily) could be added, say a foot from the ends, so that any strain might be relieved without damage to the camera or "whatever" is at the other end.

Different horse, but they do this in firehouses in case somebody forgets to unplug the truck (or ambulance) when rushing off to an emergency . . .

Yes this is what I plan to do under certain contions.
If the new Intel iBook is gonna be that light and small I want to strap it on the vest of my steadicam and use it as a monitor and streaming/storage device, I will be quite happy.

If the set up is staionary tripod I will have my laptop next to it or below.
no long cables, (except possibly power, eventually)

I'm concerned about the cable connections.
Probably the best thing to do, is get a very short ( 3 to 4 inches) firewire cable. On one end a right angled 4-pin connector for the camera, on the other end a 6-pin connector. Tie the whole cable securely to the camera with the 6-pin attached to the handle or so. The 6-pin can take a lot of abuse and take the strain of multiple inserts. The fragile 4-pin camera-connector is protected and hardly (ab)used.

From here, take a long 6-pin - 6-pin cable to connect to your laptop. It's far cheaper to replace a short cable after a couple of hundreds of inserts, than to have your cam serviced.

By IEEE1394 specification, 15 feet.

I've run 30' with no problem using a Laird cable, although I've seen no end of problems when we tried to put a 12' extension on it.
