HVX200 footage ruined with color blocks / noise

So, I think what we may be witnessing isn't inherently a problem, but rather the way encoding issues manifest in a DVCPro HD stream.
It's the way a corruption in the data transfer manifests itself in a DVCPRO-HD (or DV) stream. But it has nothing to do with the P2 system, as we've verified in every single example this issue has ever been raised in -- because going back to the card and playing the footage has always, always, 100% of the time, verified that the footage is okay on the cards and plays back fine.

Furthermore, we've had reports of people copying the footage over again, and having the corruption show up in different spots this time.

If you use a data-verified copy program such as P2CMS with copy-verification "on" you'll never ever ever see this issue.

I also have to believe that you need to minimize user error.

If OS X does something to transfers, then best practices means to write protect your cards before mounting for transfers.

Barry is a gem here, and I certainly appreciate his contributions.

Apple has told me privately that when Panasonic releases a sub $500.00 FW800 or USB3 p2 card reader, then it will facilitate native editing of mxf and avchd and avcintra files.

When that occurs, Barry has said he will switch to a Mac.

:)

Sorry Barry, but I think you are wrong here. I have seen this on footage, and on the ORIGINAL footage when played back in the camera. Jedd, play the cards back in the camera and look at the footage.

This is caused by dirty or blocked connectors in the camera or P2 card. Use canned air to try to clear it, and then shoot some tests.

Importing footage into FCP (on an Apple computer) has NEVER caused this issue. Always dirty connectors.

Look at the original footage and see for yourself. Even if you dont' have the cards, look at the card dumps with P2CMS.

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem now.I see the glithces covering full screen for 10 seconds at regular intevals of time while I play back the footage on camera stored on P2 card.
Please advice ,I am in Bangalore now and I have HVX200a.

I have recorded the bars and even this is recorded with those irritating glithces.

There are 2 16GB P2 cards with me and footage recorded on both of them show the same issue. So could this be the problem with the camera.

Did anyone face the issue with Camera before? If yes whats the solution ?

Thanks
Jay

I have been shooting with my HVX200 for over 3 years. I use both Mac and PC but only the Mac for video production. I have an old Titanium Powerbook that stays in my camera backpack and I dump the P2 cards to it and a bus powered FW400 drive. Since I read about these problems over a year ago I always write-protect my cards before dumping them.

I have never experienced the glitch with that setup after copying the P2 folders to an internal SATA drive in the computer. But I have experienced it copying the P2 folders to an external FW800 drive that uses hot swappable trays and then transferring the footage in FCP from that drive. I used different trays and either got no glitches or glitches in a different spot on the footage. I forget the name of the company I bought the FW800 drive from but they worked with me to try and figure out the problem. They sent a new tray that had an updated FW bus and at the time it didn't glitch, but I think it did latter. Needless to say I don't do anything video related with that drive any more.

From my experience it looks like it has something to do with the conversion from SATA to FW and certain FW bridges. I think Oxford 911 is one of them, or is that what all of them are? I have even seen the glitch just playing an already transferred clip (.MOV file) from that drive.
