HVX200 Flowers DVD Image (download and burn!)

Owen

Photoshop Savant
First day of shooting with the HVX. Took it to some botanical gardens and grabbed a lot of flower shots with a few bits of wildlife here and there. I watched the raw footage off the P2 on a 54" rear projection HDTV and I am amazed at the detail and color. I then did a down-conversion to DVD and it held up really well.

I have two versions for download, one compressed for the web and another that is a DVD image file. Hopefully the DVD image will give you a good feel for how well the HD to SD to DVD conversion process works.

The video is about 4 minutes long.
HVX200, default settings, F5, 720pN, variable frame rates throughout.
All focus was done in-camera with the focus assist feature and the DTL feature (I wanted to get a feel for how accurate you could get without an external monitor).

NO color correction or other processing has been done. This is raw HVX footage roughly cut together with dissolves.

Link to DVD Image:
(220MB): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U5UGZQG7 (click the "x" to close the ad and reveal the download link).
ALTERNATE DOWNLOAD MIRROR: http://www.filefactory.com/get/v3/f2.php?f=a88480 (ads and a countdown to the free link)

Instructions for burning:
On Mac use the Disk Utility.
On PC you can burn the image file with NERO or with the free utility DVD Decrypter (link).
1. Install DVD Decrypter and run the program.
2. Go to MODE -> ISO -> WRITE
3. Click the folder icon to browse to the image file you downloaded
4. Once the image loads click the graphic button at the bottom to burn (picture of a drive and a disc)

Workflow for DVD:
MXF into Avid Xpress Pro
Export as Avid DNxHD
Encode in Procoder 2
Author in Encore 2.0

If it would help maybe I can start a torrent of the 220MB DVD image. It really is worth seeing for those of you looking for a better way to judge HVX output beyond short clips on the web.

I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but how does anyone download from that website? Megaupload is not intuitive at all.

Got it thanks.

I will admit that this is the last time I will use the site. As soon as I click the download button, some pornography type pop-up appeared. Not cool!

Owen, for a first day shoot that was some great looking footage. Congrats on your HVX.

ummm... how do you burn this? nothign recognizes it except; paint shop pro......

Burn this with DVD Decrypter (free utility)

I will update the 1st post with instructions for burning.

I agree, MegaUpload is kind of annoying, but this is such a large file the options seem limited. YouSendIt.com used to be my preference, but they limit you to 50MB. I'll search for an alternative in the meantime.

EDIT: Added a second link for the DVD image file -- available at FileFactory.com as well as MegaUpload.

Change the menu settings on your DVD player. It may be set to output 4:3. If you are watching on a 4:3 TV put the player in letterbox mode. If you are watching on a 16:9 TV put the player in widescreen display mode.

This is some gorgeous footage. Definetely very film like, or at least on the level of top-quality Discovery Channel footage. Can easily be a good demo miniDVD to be given for free to the potential customers at the camera stores. At first, I thought you used a 35mm adapter.

Also, the DVD image is great idea. Mac users can easily burn it with the Disk Utility, and DVD Decrypt works well on Windows (even though I think it's not ok to link to an installer of it anymore :)).

THANK YOU! It worked perfectly and I was finally able to see HVX footage on my 42" plasma. Absolutely beautiful. Thanks again for posting this.

Was the music from Lost? It really felt like it, esp on the lizard at the end. Had it all but the "chunk" sound at the very end of the show. :)

Yep -- music is from LOST. The funky sound at the end didn't really fit the rest, so I just threw the lizard in there.

Glad the file is working for all of you!

Excellent -- 100 downloads and counting. Glad these free hosting sites are here to foot the bill for over 20 gigs of bandwidth in two days!
