Hvx200 At Ibc - Latest News From The Show

> From a Dutch man such an remark like jochem did is just acceptable but from a German ......

Cees - WTF?! What is this now about?
I know the global-dvc site for some time now and while some of it is quite worthwhile there's a bunch of info coming from it that's just wrong.. as you can see from his newest HVX "info"...

@Tzedekh where did Juan or Jeremy (from Reel Stream) ever claim to be able to get the highest resolution in 4:4:4? Just look at their site and in the forum... they always explicitly state that the HD res you can get out of the DVX using their software has 4:2:2 color information at its best!

Mikko, did you get the DVD at the panasonic booth? it's about the HVX200 and I didn't know they had it. Maybe there is some footage?

Man those images posted by Jarred are really raising my lust level for this camera! I think I need to go take a cold shower.

I never said anything about their software, which, I believe, encodes output using various codecs (which can decimate the chrominance to 4:2:2 or lower). I'm talking output from Andromeda. From the Andromeda info:
Output*:

* Color precision: 24bit, 30bit, 36bit
* Sampling modes: Full-bandwidth RGB, 4:4:4 YUV, 4:4:2 YUV, 4:2:4 YUV, 4:2:2 YUV, 4:2:0 YUV, 4:0:2 YUV, 4:1:1 YUV
* Frame size: 1540x990**, 1280x720** (16:9 with anamorphic adapter), 1124x720**(NTSC pixels, full optical frame), 770x492(NTSC pixels), 720x480(NTSC pixels), others user-defined

*When installed on the Panasonic AG-DVX100(P/AP). Output specs will vary with host camera hardware specs.
**In 4:4:4(YUV) or full-bandwidth RGB recording modes only.
"1540x990" has two asterisks -- the footnote for that refers to 4:4:4 YUV. If my interpretation of this information is wrong, then the page is misleading.

On further review of the Reel Stream site, it appears that they support a number of formats, and that the 4:2:2 may be more a limitation imposed by editing software than by Andromeda or Sculptor. According to this thread, however, Final Cut Pro will indeed work with 12-bit linear or 10-bit log 4:4:4 footage.

Hmm... as Jarred's pictures indicate, it's definitely not black (my suspicions originally). It actually looks kinda two-tone, which I don't remember seeing from the press photos... not sure I'm too into that.

Oh... and I still think that speaker looks ridiculous. :-P

Maybe it's my eyes...or the pictures....but the camera still has that awful fischer price plastic look. Yuck!! Hopefully the video it produces will make up for the bad aesthetics...

OK folks, just let me do some tuyping, but some info on the HVX, and more importantly the full scoop on the DVX100B.. coming online in about 10 mins in the first post of this thread..

- Mikko

Ok... Barry or Jared,
Do you guys think that one of you could closely inspect the pictures, talk to the "agents" :thumbsup: and give us a good summary of the apparently negligent additional info offered by Panny through known reliable sources such as "The Three" (Bergeron, Crittenden-Livingston, and Mahrer), actual Japanese engineers, or Jan ("The Beautiful" :happy: ) herself?

P.S.: Jarred, please post more pics like the ones that hared with you if you have any. (clear close ups)

:thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:

DVXUser will have comprehensive articles describing all the known features of each of the cameras, the minute the info is cleared for public release. Sometimes I think Jarred and I are "Jan groupies" -- probably half her e-mail each day is from either me or Jarred nagging her about these darn cameras. When there's something that can be publicly said, we'll say it, and we'll say it as soon as we can.

Will the HVX have any capability of using other lens? Even via adaptors?

For me, having various lens possibilities is important unless the zoom on this camera is really capable of giving some nice variants in DOF. But, I doubt it will give me too much in that department (13X I think).

I believe that the two features on the JVC that seem to be in it's favor is design look (shoulder mount) and the lens changability. BUT....the higher resolution and particularly the ability to change frame rate in 24P (a biggie since I do action features that need a little slow mo and speed up at times) for the HVX is a HUGE sell for me.

So, if I can find ways around the lens issue (mini35?) I may just wait until the HVX comes out.
