Hvx200 At Ibc - Latest News From The Show

Mikko, thanks for all your efforts and putting up with everybody shouting out their requests. If you get a chance, could you get a snapshot straight on of the six bullet points on the card next to the 100BE? The pictures you posted are great but we can't make out the words on the card.

Even though all the buzz is concentrated on th HVX 200 there are still some of us out here that are planning on buying a DVX and your news is really helpful in making decision about waiting for the "B" or getting the "A" and rebate.

Thanks again!

Yeah.. they guy was (supprize!) really unclear abotu the 16:9
..it sounds like the monitor will letterbox a (true) 16:9 recorded image. (as opposed to recording the letterboxed image and wasting pixels)
The actual CCD is supposedly the same as with the DVX100/A Just an updated version (hence the B and not a new number)

this is the only picture from the camera a took, hope you can read it a little better with this close up

If it is still a 4:3 camcorder than I can't understand Panasonic. The DVX was outdated from the very first day Panasonic announced the HVX. If you don't do anything else just buy the HVX and use it as a SD miniDV camcorder than you have a "cheaper" camcorder than a DVX100+anamorphic adapter. It is cheaper because the HVX has a better zoom through lens and will not be outdated in the next couple of years.

Sergej i think the point is, as it was said before, that SD world is still dominated by 4:3 CRT T.Vs so if somebody pretends to enter in the pro world, they can do it affordably getting this model. If they want to make films, they should go for HVX. At least it would be my choice.

Remeber that the HVX is not ment to replace, but to compliment the DVX.. therefor why not give the DVX a little touch up, not change the essence of the camera.. as you say, it wouldn't be worth their time anyway... give the DVX a few more years, with some of those compliments from the HVX.

well it's just past 1am here, so I'm going to bed for the night, I'll be back again sporadically tommorrow with more news as I get it.

This is more exciting than when I got my inflatable doll in the mail.

This is more disappointing than when my inflatable doll popped.
I stayed home today for that?? Check please.
At what point does Jan, sporting a Supergirl outfit, fly in to the rescue?

No offense to those reporting. You guys are doing a great job.

I would strongly recommend *not* listening to any salesperson present in the booth about any technical specs. Look for someone like Steve Mahrer, Michael Bergeron, or Jan Crittenden. Those are the people who know the answers.

When I was at the JVC booth at WEVA and at NAB I heard all sorts of nonsense from the sales people there, things that were completely unsubstantiated and untrue. Eventually I found Tim Tokita, he's the general manager of product technology, and he had REAL answers about the HD100 and was most willing to share. So if you want to get answers, look for one of the three people I mentioned, or look for the actual Japanese engineers. They may very well be there too, and I've always found them very willing to share information. Just a heads-up for those who are trying to get reliable info!

hmmm... I want to know even more about this 720p uprezzing to 1080p now. It can't be a straight uprez... can it, there must be some pixel shifting, unless they have already used that to achieve 720p?? I know it was very vague details, but it has just wetted my appetite!

The best info I can give you is that whoever said that had no idea what they were talking about.

Wait for actual info from the three I mentioned (Bergeron, Crittenden-Livingston, and Mahrer) or the actual Japanese engineers. Anyone else is not going to know the answer, so whatever they say cannot be taken as fact.

If I were to gamble (and I'm from Vegas) I'd say there's absolutely nothing going on in the camera that can be described as "uprezzing".

I wish there was somewhere I could take my cam to get the new lcd screen. I never shoot squeeze mode because I hate looking at it like that but would love to use it if the lcd would display it properly.

Lars, thanks for the info and the pictures! With you and Mikko in the action, I'm sure today we'll get a lot more info!

Lars or Mikko, was the HVX black, our "fisher pricysh" blue, like someone said?

How about some more info on that firestore?

mikko, how would you say the hvx looks against the varicam if you can see them both on the same type of shot with like monitors?

I think this issue stems from the fact that 1080i HDTV has a screen resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, and yet the current consumer HD cameras on the market have apparently lower native resolutions (the FX1 / Z1 shoots 1440x1080 and the HD100 is also lower, right?). I've seen it mentioned on here that the HVX chips might even be as low as 960x1080. I'm not sure what it's called to get 960 pixels to "convert" themselves to 1920, but "uprezzing" sounds like it could be an applicable term. :-P

(Please excuse the fact that I don't understand how these cameras are dealing with these quite varied resolutions at all; just answering your question as to why someone may get the impression that there is "uprezzing" taking place.)

Jan Crittenden from Panasonic noticed the Black Sapphire finish from BMW and liked it so well, she decided to change the camera! What else would you expect from a Jersey girl!?

Hey, I am not from Jersey, I just happen to live there now. ;-) I should be at the IBC booth more today than yesterday.

I am not either of those guys but the anser is that the HVX200 is the same color as all of the professional DVCPRO cameras.
