Well everyone, this is the thread!
For those that don't know; Jarred has requested I represent DVXuser at IBC, where a working protoype of the HVX is anticipated.
To prevent confusion, I will be editing all solid news into THIS POST.
Feel free to fill up the rest of the thread, I'll do my best to get back to any other questions posed, later during IBC.

HVX200..
THE PICTURE LOOKS GOOD!
WOOOHOOOO!!!
nothing new on solid specs yet, still trying to locate Jan.
European version will cost under €10,000 with 2 8GB P2 cards
THE DVX100B IS HERE!
They basically took some of the features from the HVX and put them in an updated DVX.. it's still the same chipset as the DVX100A, but it has proper 16:9 monitoring.
It has that new snazzy remote port for focus and Iris.
AND you can use firewire to dump the operating data from one camera to another so that you can use 2 cameras with timeclode locked!
Don't know yet wether you can start it and then pull the firewire and split with sync kept,, ..have to ask.
I dont' ahve WiFi directly at the Panny booth, so it's a bit of back and forth..
Pictures below: (all images so far are photographs only..no vidcaps yet)
I can only upload 3 files per post.. so i'm going to have to make other posts for the pictures..

update in post #68 on page 7 of this thread.

Canon DOES have an HDV camera coming out.
They have it at the Canon Stand (though sorta out of the way..) - The pictures of it are genuine. I don't have my laptop at the show today, but i'll post pictures this evening.
..it almost looks like it may actually be black! - it's not just a spray paint job.
The resfused to say ANYTHING about it. There will fe a full formal annoucement of the camera at the Canon Expo in NY in a few days. Untill we have to wait.

ok, here comes info from day 2 of IBC... Topics discussed: DVX100B, HVX200, Canon HDV XL(?), Sony HCR-A1.
First off, let me state that any information im getting from IBC, unless stated otherwise if for the European/PAL versions of the cameras in quetion. If i get US/NTSC info i'll aso post that an mention seperatly.
****DVX100B - European version
I got a chance to quiz Jan (along with Adam Wilt.. you may have read some of his stuff) about the DVX100B and how it differes from the DVX100A ( I wont' discuss difference to the DVX100, as those can be derrived from existing information.
Heres's the list:
*Some physical modifications, includeing a recessed Picture/scene mode wheel, so you can't accidently bump it.
*Increased travel on the LCD screen.. it bends forward a little ways too.. just like on the HVX.
*The pannel in the base that holds the tripod mounting holes is now exposed, and can be reaplced cheaply if you manage to strip your threads, or rip the thing out! you jsut switch one peaivce, not the whole bottom of the camera.
*It has a new tape drive machanisim.. this is to conform to new Enviromental regulations making the camera legal to sell in places like California(!)
*The door latches are far more solid, so that with a strong grip you don't pull the door open far enoguh to set off the "ejected" sensor and kill yoru recording.
*THE COLOR. it is indeed the BMW color "Black Safari" - which looks rather nice in my oppinion.
*According to Jan, the camera has an overall "Sexier look".
*And now for some features; the DSP has been revised... there is now less noise in the darker areas.
*You can turn off ALL the displays in the viewfinder by holding down the "Display" button for a few secconds..you can also bring them back the same way
*You can run an "End search" while you are in CAMERA mode.. without having ot go to VCR mode to do it!
*The chips are the SAME, The camera shoots THE SAME PICTURES and redords them the same way... that means that you can stick and anamorphic lens on, or you can use the "stretch" recording to get 16:9 without and exra lens.. however...
*The display has a switchable aspect ratio. So alongside the normal 4:3 (fullscreen) display, you can through the menu, set the display to 16:9..this will allow you proper composition for any 16:9 shooting, wether you are using "stretch" or an external Lens - the display aspectration is independent from the recording mode.. so you can configure it as you wish
*There is a setting to switch the headphone output between direct live sound (good for a sound recorder/boom op) or in sync with the image on the LCD (so delayed a little as it goes through the recording processes.
*It has improved graphics in the menu, improving visibilty and makign it easier to use. - It's still the same menu system though, so it'll be totally familer to anyone upgrading.
*And improved connectivity; It has a 2nd mini-plug connector for remote Focus and Iris.. this is in _addition_ to the Zoom/rec-Pause remote connector.. so you can now contoll all of them. Supposedly Varizoom allready has a remote ready for this feature that it will be reasing shipping when teh camera does...the same remotes will also work for the same port on the HVX.
*and the magic Firewire connections: You can use firewire to do a dump of all the camera settings from one DVX100B to a 2nd one.. handy if you are in the studion and need to quickly insure that your cmaera settings match.
*and here is one of my favoriates.. The camera can be set to read, and Jam sync it's timecode to an incoming timecode signal on Firewire.. this is from ANY camera that sends out TC over Firewire when recording, Not all cameras do, but most of them do (including the 100 and 100A of course) This allows you to plug in your DVX100B as a slave camera with firewire to match timecode with another camera, then go off and shoot.. with yoru cameras having matched timecode.. great for multicam work! ..I wonder how long someone makes a box to convert regular timecode into firewire timecode ot interface with slates, audio recorders, etc..
The US MSRP is $3995, and it will ship in October (this year).
According to Jan, don't cry if you jsut baught a cmaera.. it's not a big step up from the 100A.. in fact, if you arn't looking for any of the new features, you might as well stick with the 100A..and get it for a great price!
And again, if you have a 100 that works for you fine, but there you would be more likly to see a larger upgrade..due to the combination of 100->100A and 100A->100B upgrades.
And yes, the 100A will of course still be in stock in stores for a little while, with that great rebate. Hey everyone wins!
And then onto the HVX...
*******HVX200
Not really much new on this camera in terms of specks since NAB.. basically the big difference i shtat this is a working cmaera here.. but still a little bit away from the production moddle.. and they ain't saying much new about the techincal.
However here are a couple of features..
*It will have similar Firewire syncronization capabilities to the DVX100B.. TC-JAM, Scene copy (as well as being able to scene copy with an SD card.)
*The Firewire output will send full DVCPRO-HD .. ready to be captured by the new Firestore that was announced.. I'll be sure to talk to focus tommorrow too.
* here's the big one: Variable frame rates will be 12 STEPS ONLY. ..not finallized, but it will be only 12. And you can't change them while the camera is running ..though Adam Wilt sugested the possibilty of using diiferent Framerates in adject scene files and just spinning the selector wheel mid shot.. Jan concluded that that *may* work, but woudl probably cause recording poblems (Begin speculation..) So I say again, the HVX200 does NOT HAVE FULLY VARIABLE FRAMERATES and does NOT RAMP speeds.
*It will, as before mentioned, shoot proper 1080/24p ..and it will be recorded as a 1080/60i stream (on the P2 card) and then you will use pulldown removal in your NLE. Nothing new here, just a re-affermation.
*It will always record 4 channel audio when using a format that records it (so DVCPRO50 and -HD. Channels 1 and 2 are assignable to the internal moc, or of course the XLRs.. just as normal.. and channels 3 and 4 will always be the internal mic. .. there is no way to get an aditional 2 channels in externally.. (and no, not even through the RCA connectors..there's a technical limitation there.)
The US ship date is December, however at this point there are so many orders in that it's going to be backorded for anyone who isnt' pre-ordering.... so to be able to jsut walk into a store and buy one, you will need to wait untill January. ..and for those of us in PAL land, we will have to wait an aditional month.. so Pre-orders in arriving in Jan, in stores in Feb.
*There will be 2 seperate cameras, one for 50i/PAL and one for 60i/NTSC ... I personally am really bumbed about this.
No changes on the prices, both with and without P2 cards will be available as discussed before.
And for those of you interested (who will very quickly pick apart this information for all it's worth, and more) the camera on display is shooting 1080i
The cameras at the show are all hand made, and therefore very delicate.. that is why they are on a tripod so that people don't mess with them... Jan would like to still have working cameras to take on tour.
And no, these cameras don't yet have activated firewire ports, or 720p for that matter,, they are jsut on display for those at the tradeshow to see the best pictures it can do out of the component output...
They arn't releasing any footage quite yet.. and especially not at the tradeshow... well basically beacuse they want to get it shot properly and send out the best that the camera can do, not just some random stuff rolled off at the tradeshow that will be scrutinized for all it's erros in a uncontrolled shooting environment. (as happened to the DVX, the FX1, etc..)
I just ran out of space in the post, therefore the report continues in post #161 of this thread.
