hvx200 and using a PC

Hi everyone,

I don't normally use a Pc, so this might be a lame question. We are trying to use my camera with Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3 ( just think of it as any window program that gets a signal from a camera.)

What do I need to do to the pc so that it "sees" the camera? Do I need to install a driver or another program?

Thanks

Alexa

Firewire ... USB ... the correct output settings on the camera ... The manual/Barry's book work well here.

yep, got the FW connection and the camera is in "camera mode"

well, maybe it is a little more complicated..

this is a macbookpro running VMware so that we can use the Adobe program, since it doesn't support mac.

still not working..but will try again in a bit

THANKS for reading, regardless

The Firewire connection doesn't send it's signal in PN framerate modes. Make sure it's not in one of those.

oh, not using a mac with VMware..

just someone else's laptop pc

have the usb connection.

really?? thanks a lot for this tip..

any other tips? I'm kind of stressed about this since I'm about to go meet some people with a rental hvx and someone else's pc.

what driver would i download? I need to download a driver so that the computer sees the camera or the p2 storage? confused..

Basically, I'm trying to make a pc that has
Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3

receive the HXV signal.

and, we will be recording at the same time onto p2.

ANY HELP APPRECIATED, GUYS!

thanks a lot

fDo you know for sure that the FireWire port on the HVX is good?

What version of Flash Encoder? I have the one that shipped with CS3.
I could test here, but it wouldn't be until tomorrow.

Sorry for your troubles.

Edit to add: just occured to me that my Flash Encoder is Mac, so maybe that test won't be much help. Sorry.

I think the connection is fine. I was using FW 2.0 and downloaded the driver. The PC saw it as a P2 device, for sure.

But it would not show up as a camera in Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3. ( holy smokes, adobe..why the long name???)

dunno! but I really appreciate the ideas- why this site is so great.

what am I doing? well--I'm helping out trying to pull off live streaming video for an event. That is why I need the Adobe Flash Media Live. I tried to use the hvx to be the live camera, but it is not working. So, will use it to just record the event and will use the sony for the live camera.

but the attempt of trying to push out the live signal is pretty interesting!

will update on whether or not this works.

try using adobe 'On Location'. I've shot live fotage to a PC using firewire & 'On Location'. I haven't tried shooting using the usb. I thin you have to have the 'PC MODE' of the HVX200 set correctly. It's been a few years, so don't remember all.

Hi there,

I will give it another try and consider your advice, soon. Thanks

This is the vod from that event. Video on the panels is kinda shabby as I was doing too many things at once..( shooting, editing, emails, other interviews, twittering, etc.)

You use firewire in camera mode with OnLocation, Windows or Mac versions.

turn the camera on to record mode before you open the software

go to the camera menu "other functions" and set it to USB Device

press the rear button on the camera as if you were going to review the clips.

after you release it, press it again and hold it for about 5 to 10 seconds untion the LCD shows USB connected.

then open your software.

I did all that..and my camera still does not show up as a connected video capture device in adobe media encoder 3.

going to try onlocation
