HVX200 – Record direct to hard drive (not FireStore)

HVX geniuses,

I have searched the HVX200 forums for this question to no avail...

I'm wondering if it is possible to record from the HVX live via firewire to a (CalDigit eSata) hard drive. (No firestore in this equation).

So... The gear setup would look like this, flowing HVX200 to hard drive:

HVX200 connects via firewire to my MacBookPro, which is running FinalCut. FinalCut has my external CalDigit eSata hard drive set as the scratch drive.

With this configuration, is it possible to caputre live 720/30P video (using log and capture, i'm assuming) to my hard drive? If so, what am I missing?

Thanks for your time!

Really? Do you know of any tutorials, articles or threads that explain how to do this? I can't seem to find anything, and I can't get the settings straight.

Match your cam settings to the FCP setting. Use non controllable device.

hit capture now and esc to stop.

Will work except for pNative modes.

I have tried this and FCP crashes every time. Just to be straight...

In FCP's menu under Final Cut Pro -> Audio/Video Settings I have the following settings:
Sequence Preset: DVCPRO HD - 720p30
Capture Preset: DVCPRO HD - 720p30 48 kHz
Device Control Preset: Non-Controllable Device
Video Playback: Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main
Audio Playback: Default
Scratch Disk is set to be my CalDigit drive which is connected via eSata

My HVX is connected to my MacPro (2GB Ram, Dual-Core 2.66 processors). My HVX has the following settings:
720P/30P
No P2 cards or tapes are in the HVX
1394 is enabled (1394 control is set to EXT and PC Mode is set to 1394 Device)

All that said... Am I missing a setting, or are any of these settings incorrect? Have you guys successfully done this?

Thanks again!

Matt
