HVX vs DVX (in the "looks" dept)

Why grey like the original DVX? Is Panasonic saving the graphite grey for an "A" version? The graphite look so much better IMO.

Yikes. I cannot even believe this thread. I hope Jan doesn't stumble on it!

1080p, people! For under $5k street!?! Once you put all of the french flags/matte boxes/viewfinder shades on them, they'll look as pro as anything. I am very glad that all of the Panasonic designers focused all their energy on what it does vs. what it looks like.

Plus it's only a mock-up. Maybe they'll call in Porsche to finish the sleek final design look, a la LaCie's FW HDs. But really--who the H3LL cares!?!

UNDER 5K STREET? Are you on Crack? Even the street price won't be that low. More like 5799 or something like that. Panasonic is going to milk this bad boy for everything it's worth.

Well I hope she does, and I'm sure she will.

The fact that this thread exists at all, plus the fact that quite a few of us, super-loyal, hardcore enthusiastic DVX fans, have expressed doubts about the new cam's looks, should tell Panny there might be a problem here.

It is probably way too late to change anything except the color (if that), though. Will we get used to it ? Possibly. But wouldn't it have been nice if all of us could have been blown away by the HVX's looks, like we feel about its specs ?

I think, and it saddens me to say so, that the design definitely isn't on a par with what the electronics and the optics promise to be. Maybe, just maybe, if there are enough people among us who keep saying it with quiet determination, there's a small chance that we will be heard... At least, I do very much hope so.

LIke the Looks

LIke the Looks

Looking at the latest photos. I like the looks of the camera. I like how the handle for the shotgun mic is out of the way to the right.

I don't care if it looked like my shoe with a lens on it.

All that is important is the quality of it's performance. Nothing else!

If it's ugly, who cares. I'm not going to sleep with it, marry it or even take to a romantic dinner in Paris.

I will use this tool like I use a wrench. To achieve what task I am faced with.

It's a tool that is a camera, not a chick.

My god, the children are worried about it's looks....................

too sad.......

I doubt Panny has unliimited resources. Changes to design = delay in shippping. I'd hate to see that. I like the look. Put a Matte box on it, and it will look great. Maybe they can change the color of some of the plastic...

I have a functionality observation regarding the "too high handle" up top. On the DVX, even with my svelte hands, my knuckles get into the larger zoom control when I'm using the handle zoom control. It presents a real problem for low hand-held work when using your thumb to toggle between telephoto and wide.

I've often thought that an extra 1/4" or 3/8" of an inch of clearance would be enough to remedy the situation. Appears that Panasonic made an important ergonomic change in that respect.

I also think the transition from the body to the viewfinder looks a little odd, but it would do nothing to dissuade me from purchasing this camera at the predicted MSRP!

F-ing awesome stuff for us!

SRP is 5999, so dealer cost most-likely a grand below. Don't buy in the first 6 months, let the earily adopter pay for the R&D. So after christmas, and hopefully they will scrap the dv tape mech, under 5 Gs, yes.

..what are you talkling about?

"hopefully they will scrap the DV tape mech" ??

thats like buying a new car, and hoping that they dont give you a warranty or a way to open the trunk without the key. ..having the DV tape mech is really useful for ALOT of people.. you dont have to use it. but IMHO its pretty rediculous to hope that they take away a feature on the camera.

Heck, untill everyone has a HD deck and monitor and a portable real time HD system, blah blah (and we will...) I see DV as a GREAT offline format for HD - you can edit it with ala the same software, you can even make proxys from it, and even encode public trailers, and other online material from it. Not to mention it makes a great equivilant to dalies that you can give to the DP/Dir while you stash those P2 cards somewhere safe!

The brochures are out. It's a final design. This is an awesome tool to add to my tool box. This is a ""WOW"" day!

its probably the most expensive piece of a camcord to produce. Heads require maintenance, that why the 100 shows you hours of use. if you are going going HD or flash card, you don't need them. Not having them lower cost of manufacturing

Ummm... Looks? Wow... Seriously.

It could look like this with the HVX specs and for under 6K I would buy it!

Well, I might paint it.

Who cares about the look! This is one amazing camera...
