HVX Tape Transport Hours Meter Question??

This is beginning to smell like day old fish. I would consult with my attorney to see if you have some cause of action against him. I agree with the social engineering comment. He's not interested in the hours, he wants something else. I would tell him to bring the camera in, have a look at it and then if it was still in good condition, give him back his money and kick him out.

We got a rather lengthy email from him yesterday, denying that he represented himself as being associated with us. According to the company we deal with, he did say he was an employee of ours. We've been working with them for a while, so I can't think of any reason they would make up this story.

At the end of the day...I think the guy's a noob and doesn't have a clue as to what he's doing. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that front...but here in Dallas, just like everywhere else...reputation is all you have. I do my best to protect mine. I'm hoping in the end, he'll realize that his actions are damaging his own reputation and he'll take the appropriate steps to rectify the situation.

That being said, I think I've given it all the attention it deserves. I'm moving onto "real work"...lol.

Thanks for the input guys...

Michael

One of two things happened:

1. He appeared at this place that sold you the cam and represented himself as your employee and demanded a copy of the receipt -- which is bad and unacceptable; OR

2. He appeared at this place that sold you the cam and didn't represent himself as your employee and demanded a copy of the receipt -- which is bad and unacceptable.

The fact that he demanded a copy of receipt is over the top

It's your call, of course, but I would get him in with all the stuff, run through the items purchased and demand return of the items.

Then check it out and give him a refund.

Life is too short.

As David said, move on, you could do that good on that package, especially after offering $600.00 off.

If you want to let it go for that, I've been thinking about getting a second unit anyways. Contact me if you want to sell it and maybe I'll move up my purchase and help us both.
And I am much easier and honest to deal with! :)
Good luck either way.

There you go . . . Ted will buy it, and I get a finder's fee.

Everybody's happy.

Make certain you charge the original purchaser a rental fee.

Michael, this buyer lost "the benefit of the doubt" when he went in and asked for a copy of the signed credit card receipt. Why on earth would he need that?

The best solution is what the others said - ask him to bring everything in, inspect it, and arrange to give him a refund. I would not trust him at this point and wouldn't reveal my hand until all the eqt is in front of you. Your ace is what he did, as David says.

I'm wondering if you ever saw proof of the counter hours or if you've been going on his word only? (no time to scroll back) Hopefully he has not been using the camera the entire time.

(oops, see this is an old thread - I wonder how this got resolved)

Hey Ash,

If your asking about the hour meter it just seems to start counting when the hvx is powered on.

I know but why would that count toward usage on the head?

ash =o)

The tape head counter will even count when there is no tape in it. It's crazy, I'd think it would be something they could fix in the firmware but for the time being my HVX is depreciating faster and faster everyday.

There are a few people that have learned how to reset the hour meter back to 0...

Please don't ask me how because I don't know.
