HVX scene file editor program

At the Broadcast Asia show last year someone showed me a scene file editor working on his cell phone; no idea what version of OS he was running (i.e., Symbian or Palm OS or Windows CE or whatever) but it was pretty slick. Never heard anything further about it though.

I'll be happy to Beta-test on a Compaq iPAQ Rx1950 running Windows Mobile 5.0
It has a built in SD-card slot.

I don't have immidiate access to a HVX200 though, but I may soon (end of year budget surplus ).

Anyone who wants to beta-test (alpha, rather) is welcome to download and test the application. It should run fine under Windows XP (haven't tested Vista). What I want to know (and the only thing it can do at this point) is whether or not it will read and show the settings of your scene files correctly. Interface should be self-explanatory. Please let me know if there's something wrong and please send me your scene files to test with. Thanks!

Can anyone send me a scene file to test with?

Also, Is this PAL or NTSC? Or both?

On initial first reaction though, the user interface looks very simple and straight forward.

Nice. I like it.

Could the layout be more compacted on the vertical? I'm thinking limited desktop space on small laptops.

I couldn't get it to run in GNU/Linux (Ubuntu 7.10 specifically) under Wine with Mono installed, nor with Mono itself.

Any plans for a Linux version, I hope? You should be able to compile .Net code with Mono to run on multiple platforms, though I think you need to release it under the GPL if you do so.

Nope - sorry ...

Can´t install http://p2genie.com/scenefilegenie.zip on Windows XP.
Doesn´t work.

Do I need to have an internet connection while installing?
Is this based on Windows .net framework 2.0?

I´d love to have a scene file editor for windows mobile 5.
If you develop one (hopefully not based on .net framework or other extra programs) I will definately test it immediatly on my PDA and the HVX.

Editing on Win mobile5 PDA is by far the slickest way to go!

No need for an internet connection, but the installer should tell you to install the .net framework 2.0. If it doesn't then try that before you install the application.

If you were a developer you'd know that the .net framework is not as bad as you might think. The compact .net framework (for Windows Mobile 5) is 25 MB, completely free and lets you run both .net 1.0 and 2.0 applications - so it's not too bad IMO.

thanks ProfessorU I will test this soon.

tlorenzo: 25MB is huge for mobile devices, it´s like the size of at least 25 other programs. Nobody likes .net framework on any mobile device. I tested it once for another program and had all kinds of errors, I had to deinstall it.
A small program without .net framework would be much much better.
I´m no developer and it is maybe easier to program with .net framework (I´d be interested to know why), but a completely otherwise useless (obscure) 25MB program is not appreciated by most of the mobile5 users.
No offense though, I like what you (intend to) do (hopefully without ...)

I can´t install the .cab.

I have an "ARM" processor, I guess this program is not compatible with this type of processor.
But this program for winmob5 ARM would be great: only 64kB-wow!

Please someone develop this...

I won't be installing a non .net based application, but I welcome anyone who will. I'm sorry, but I just don't agree that 25 Mb is that much in these days where you can get 8 Gb flash memory for $200 or less. Besides - Windows Mobile 6 has it built in...

... and with .net you can avoid a lot of those hardware conflicts and issues .. like that "ARM" processor problem up above.

P2 Genie has always supported both PAL and NTSC. The application is just a backup utility. Until the upcoming version it's never even been aware that the data copied is either format.

WOW! I bumped into this thread searching for info on syncro scan, and just WOW!

tlorenzo, you are THE MAN!

The number of possible settings boggles the mind.

Why has this thread died? I'll be doing some tests with my HVX and see how the beta(or Alpha) holds up. I have already installed and read a plain jane scene file, and I'll CERTAINLY be using this to modify all my future scene files, instead of bothering with doing it all through a combo of text editors and menu changes.

The only thing I wish was different was if the camera itself understood some basic commands(inside the scene files) so that the settings could change in between frames, and thus your program could be set up to write these variable changes. I think some interesting pieces of video could be made with such things...perhaps if any Panasonic employees watch the forums they could take this into account on the next camera.
