HVX price in Canada and pre-orders

He's saying his plan is eventually to get an HVX one way or the other, but if it's not going to be possible for this shoot, he doesn't want to torch a bunch of money renting an HD100, so he's wondering if buying and selling the HD100 would net out to be less expensive than just renting the HD100 for the duration of the shoot.
And thanks Barry. That's exactly it.

Panasonic will be shipping a demo (but full working and final/late production model) HVX200 up to a few friends of mine in toronto next week (applied electronics), it is a very selected demo to only a few key clients. I will be unable to attend the meet, but a good friend of mine will be there. I will let you know what he finds out about availability as well as pricing and just how the unit looks compared to his varicam.

Hey I'll go for you!

Good, on ya Jarred for stirring the Canuck supplier pot.
As alot of us know it has been challenging here to get a good price on most prosumer and professional equipment.

wow your lucky! Is this camera going to be at DVexpo West? I hope to see a demo there.
Actually DV Expo West will probably be the single biggest HVX event yet. Jan referred to it as the "rollout", so it looks like everything we've been waiting for will happen -- full disclosure, full specs, footage, stills, hands-on with fully-functioning models, etc.

The P2 list pricing posted earlier on this thread has now changed.
Panasonic canada will be updating the prices shortly....sorry for any confusion.
Stay tuned....

Yes, I just heard this too. I think it's got something to do with HVX200+P2 cards deal pricing compared to individual pricing. We'll know more very soon.

Hi, I just wanted to mention that as Panny pricing changes, so will the EVS price for the packages. If the list price goes down $300, EVS price will also go down accordingly. I will be sending all HVX preorder customers email notices after DV Expo anyhow, updating available choices and prices.

Any news on Canadian pricing?

I do hope they TRY and compete with US prices. Otherwise, I'll be placing my order down south in a couple days.
:)

Hey Jarred, you mentioned earlier in this thread that cameras don't carry duty. How does that work? i thought we'd get dinged for just about anything at customs...

What's a ballpark shipping charge that we can expect, based on your experience with DVX shipping? And will EVS or Spec Comm ship it with Fedex rather than UPS if we request?
I'm just trying to decide where to place my order next week.

Thanks.

HI Spotbot, we always ship Fedex to Canada rather than UPS, reason being is that they are more reliable for international delivery, faster, and cost about $100 for 2-day service with insurance.

Hello SpotBotGun,

We will ship any method you like. As mentioned before, we will pay $15 and the difference would have to be covered by you. We have all new pricing for our packages. Check them out.

I said in another post that video equipment carries no duty but you still may have to pay broker fees. Well here is a run around as described by a buddy, this is all I know so don't ask me any questions I am just quoting his instructions. I'll only know more when I do it.

Well First, you got to get shipping via UPS, make sure you tell your shipper to hold for Pick Up (Clears own hold) that means that they will hold the item in Bond when it arrives. When it arrives you go to UPS get documentation then head over to Revenue Canada... Make sure you know all the Tariff Codes or make sure to send your shipper the Tariff codes so he indicates the right ones (Duty Free), tell them that you are clearing yourself and they will guide you on the PC that is there how to fill out all forms...This is what you call being the Broker, without having to pay for one you are doing all the work yourself...Now what this saves, is the BROKERAGE fees that either UPS will charge you or a independent Broker would. Now this is worth it if you are paying a lot for the Camera, because Brokerage fees are pretty high, obviously you still have to pay provincial taxes but you will pay them on the spot at Revenue Canada.

DONT SHIP VIA UPS (sorry vuzz) UPS is a total rip off.

Fedex does the job the best, and you dont need to pay duty. Cameras have no duty, but you still gotta pay GST and PST, like normal. The last DVX I ordered from EVS (california) to me (vancouver) cost $60 overnight.
