HVX price in Canada and pre-orders

Seems like there are a few Canuks on this board and being one myself I was wondering if any of you had an idea of what the HVX will be going for here and any way of pre-ordering it.

I wanted to ask if it would be wise to pre-order it from the States and get it shipped, how would the duty on this camera be? I know it's hard to say since it's not released. Seems here in Canada when I was looking at the DVX sellers they all seemed sketchy, don't we have a Canadian version of B&H?

Hi Vuzz,
I work for a Panasonic dealer here in the Vancouver area. I have been following the HVX very closely and am obviously excited about this new camera and it's capabilities.
I can say that Panasonic Canada has not released any official pricing on this camera yet. Our last bulletion regarding the HVX mentioned delivery may be pushed to December or January. It's easy to guess the "list" price, but we're all interested in what the street price is going to be. Still no updates. I will post here as soon as I find more information (I'm always reading up here).
Not the answer you were looking for but it's all we know thus far.

When I met with Panasonic Canada last month, they didn't have any word on the price either. I'm still waiting for the word from my local Panasonic dealer here in Ottawa.

Has Panasonic-Canada even announced a 'list' price, yet? The press release on their website has listed, "under 10,000US" and I think that's a bit lame to copy and paste the US office information, but fits in line with the general opinion of Panasonic Canada and their way of doing business. Anyone remember when their rep showed up online here and threw a hissy fit because he wasn't adored like the US reps? Those were the days.

I was seriously considering buying one from across the border until I discovered the, "under 10,000" price wasn't adjusted for Canadian dollars. I was quite pissed off when I found that out, actually. I'd like to know where the grey market dealers are getting their cameras so cheap, as I don't see how it could be from Canada as the prices are actually higher their for US dollars. So, if you know, send me a private message.

Thanks.

I really wish we had a place to get the goods like B&H in Canada.

So what are the pros and cons for us Canuks in just buying the cam in the states?

There's a place in Edmonton that seems to be a good place to get a camera. Its called Cine Audio Visual ( cineav.com ) and I asked them about pricing and they too said they have been given no updates yet. They just said that panasonic told them to keep selling as many DVXs as they can.

I normally shop a Cinequip Ottawa. They've sold the first P2 SDX800 cameras in Canada and know their stuff. They're just waiting on the word from Panasonic Canada.

Hi folks, thought I would revive this thread.

Any new information as to Canadian pricing for the HVX200, pre-orders and such?

(I'm in the Vancouver BC area.)

I got an approximate price of $7500 this morning from Cine AV this morning.

There is also Panasonic/Apple information session happening on Dec 6th in Edmonton. Panasonic Canada may have a working HVX there.

If there's enough HVX users in the Vancouver area mebbe we can start a user's group...
Well, once we actually get them in our hot little hands. I'm game.

Panasonic AG-HVX200 - Availalbe Late December 2005 - List price $7499 Canadian
That's good to hear. I'll have to see if any of the local dealers are taking pre-orders.

I've got a project coming up this winter (January - March) and would really like to use the HVX for it. My fallback is renting the JVC HD100, but it's not the camera I would ultimately want to buy. (The HVX is better suited to my needs and working style.)

We have gotten multiple pre-orders in Canada. Our deal is to cover shipping in the USA. We calculated USA shipping to be around $15. Canadian purchasers have been willing to just pay the difference.

Plus courier document charges, plus customs charges, plus exchange rates.......

I drove 7 hours to New York to pick up my DVX ordered from EVS... saved about $1500-2000 from the rebate, tapes, battery, MB, and book/dvd, and generally a lower cost

Definitely buy in US if you can

I just preordered my HVX200 from Spec-Comm on Thursday. They had the best prices at that time and excellent customer relations and feedback. I am also from Canada. They prices up here are just too high even when you consider exchange rates, GST, etc. Saved WELL over 1500.00. Emailed the Regional Account Manager Western Region for Panasonic Canada to find out about warrantee coverage in Canada for this camera if I bought it in the USA. Response was 'Why not buy it in Canada.' and didn't bother to answer the question on warrantee. Does anyone know the answer?

This is the EXACT issue I have due to our relatively small market in Australia. No price competition at all... The prospective price of the HVX200 PAL is going to be AU$10,000+ at this stage by all reports - that's about US$7200. It's criminal!

As another example, as per a different post, I've expressed my temptation and interest in buying a DVX100BE, and waiting a while for the HVX (like 6-12 months). There are a number of factors, including my need to shoot quite soon - and also budgeting discussions (as we all know the initial outlay for the HVX isn't just the camera, it's your P2's, your storage, your back-up etc etc etc..). I can get the DVX100BE (or DVX102B - whatever) as a Japanese PAL import/grey market for about AU$4500 or US$3200 - cheap huh :) :) (hence my investment dilemma!!)
Yeah it has no local warranty - but is delivered from Australia (I like that), and I can upgrade to International Panasonic 2yr or 4yr warranty to allow it to be serviced locally without additional charges! Contrast that to a "retail price" for the DVX100A is AU$6995 or US$5000, with stores selling it anywhere from AU$4995 (US$3600) to AU$6190 about US$4400.

Grey market IS the way to go for me, and many others. Whilst local support at the point of purchase would be easier - if I can upgrade my warranty for longer coverage for a fraction of the saving... Why wouldn't I do it? The DVX100B is a case study - as its brand new - and still has "brand new pricing". I can see the HVX200 will also be as competitively priced - but the local pricing is just ridiculous. I have this issue ALL the time - and why electronics companies feel they have to and can fleece smaller markets so aggressively is really beyond my comprehension. *shrug*

Ok - vented - thanks...
