HVX/P2 Software Updated

Don't know if everyone's aware, but it looks like there have been three updates so far. Might want to check your software to make sure you're up to date. The software update page is at https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/p2indexe.html

1) the 4GB P2 card has had a firmware update
2) The HVX200 itself has had a firmware update as of October 30, 2006
3) The PC software driver has been updated as of November 15, 2006

There's also a FAQ on that site, at https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/faq/p2faq.htm

Barry,

Thanks for the info. Question:

I was about to download the firmware upgrade for the 4gb p2 card, when I read this:

*Firmware of P2 card CAN NOT be installed by Macintosh

What do we Macintosh people do then?

Mac users would have to either a) find someone with a PC and have them install it for you, or b) be running an Intel Mac under BootCamp with WinXP installed, and install it that way.

Is there any reason to update the HVX firmware with the Oct 30 updater? I've just taken the position that "if it ain't broke..."

What?

No Macintosh support?

Imagine that.

Seriously, I don't understand this. Apple support DVCProHD right out of the box

Why ignore half your users?

It it makes you feel any better, Panasonic seems to totally ignore those of us that use Linux. Which is somewhat ironic, considering that the camera itself contains GPL code...

I couldn't actually see the download link for the HVX firmware updater on that page, but would also like to know what has been addressed and if anyone has done the update yet?
Thanks
Mark

I saw the blank page too, until I clicked and dragged the screen, then everything popped up. Must be a secret page for PC users only.

Seems that panasonic has some serious communication issues. All the confusion about those 8 gig rebates and now there are updates for the camera for almost 2 months and no emails or info from Panasonic.

very sad Paanasonic......

What's "sad" about it? Does your printer manufacturer e-mail you when there's an updated driver for your printer?

There is no confusion about the 8GB rebate. It's exactly what it was from the beginning. Anyone who bought one from 10/1/06 through 3/31/07 will get it. It will not ever be retroactive to anyone earlier than 10/1/06. Ever. Nobody ever gives price protection longer than 30 days, and Panasonic gave its buyers 30 days. If there was an error on the website then there was an error, but sheesh... "no good deed goes unpunished", as they say...
