HVX 202EN Firewire Capture

Hi All,

It seems to be possible to simply ingest (by firewire) the contents of my P2 card straight into FCP, avoiding the need to purchasing an adapter. However, the P2 card is not mounting.

I am running a macIntel powerbookPro, and using a HVX202EN. I am following the proceudure according to the HVX manual and Ken Stones website.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If only I could have kept my trusty old powerbook, it never missed a beat.

Cheers,
Fishtank

Have you installed the latest Mac Intel p2 drivers?

At the web site the folder is entitled "pcdriver_macintel."

Yes. Still no joy.
The card does not mount.

I have been using a standard 4-6pin firewire cable. I have tried several!

Are you making sure to go to MCR mode, and then hold down the MODE button for a few seconds more, so that it goes into PC mode?

And have you set the PC MODE menu item to "1394 DEVICE"?

what is the lenght of your firewire cable.
i have had this problem becouse i have used a long firewire cable(at maximum you can use 15ft cable)

Ah ha, genius! I was switching to MCR but not holding down the mode button again to switch to PC mode. Thank you, ingesting now!

I am baffled though as to why you would purchase an adapter if this woks so simply?

Nevermind that last remark, it occured to me that hot swapping cards might be a good reason to purchase an adapter.

I am a video artist (not a film maker) and as such I only use one 8GB P2 card, and I always have my macbook with me.

You've got it right -- if you don't need to hot-swap cards, or you don't mind taking the camera offline while you transfer footage, then yes, using the camera itself is the cheapest adapter you can have for importing footage.

But if you want to keep shooting while the computer transfers footage in the background, that's when something like the PCD20 or the duel-adapter or a direct PCMCIA slot is absolutely invaluable.
