Hvx-200 Faq

Letterbox your 16:9 footage in your NLE, then output to DVD. The DVD player will take care of aspect ratio conversion for your 4:3 TV.
 
Quick question.
The hvx200 can only record hd in p2 cards and sd in tapes right?
my question is why? why cant the hvx200 record hd on tapes? is it the limitation of the tapes or is panasonic trying to sell p2 cards?
 
The bitrate of DVCProHD is far too high for MiniDV tapes -- up to 100Mbps depending on the camera settings, which is four times what DV and HDV use.
 
If you are in fact talking about tape, then the answer is no. The HVX can only record standard-resolution DV on tape, which doesn't compare to HDV.

But if you compare DVCProHD to HDV, then DVCProHD will look better. No interframe artifacts, and twice the color information.
 
Are there any known problems with getting a HVX200 to capture on a Mac Pro? Because my new Mac doesn't seem to recognize it, but it sure does recognize my old Sony TRV80.
 
Have you put the camera into 1394 device mode? There are no know problems with making the HVX200 and MACs work over 1394, there are thousands that do this every day.

Push the VTR/camera button once, then hold it down for several seconds until you see a blue screen and "1394 device connect". If you don't see that screen, you are not in the mode. THEN try to capture.
