General HV20 to Canon DSLRs

How many people made the jump back in the day? I was cleaning out my closet and found my old camera and almost cried lol.

For me it was HV-20 to HV-30 (someone broke the firewire port on my 20) and then from there to the GH1, and now GH2.

i still have 4 HV30's that i use as backups and 2nd angles, for long roll, things like that. Great cameras if you have the light for them.

I went from the HV20 to the HF100 (still have one of those), then the Canon T1i, on to the 7D, then added a T2i for backup and 2nd cam, replaced those two with a T3i and a 60D. When I tried a used GH2 I sold off all the Canon gear.

Now shoot with a pair of GH3's.

thats quite a transition you made there. I have shot a couple of times with a gh2, i borrowed it to hack it for a friend so i got to test it out before and after adding the driftwood hack. Such great quality footage but the handling and screen would both be quite a learning curve for me.

Yup. I went from a Canon Optura (the first progressive camcorder I read), then fantasized about owning the DVX100A for awhile as it seemed to not move below $3,000 for years...lol, and then got the Canon HV20, then the T2i...which was much better and then to the BlackMagic Cinema Camera MFT....which I'm not contemplating trading in for the 5D Mark III now that it shoots RAW and offers nearly everything I want/need....though the playback of RAW worries me.
