HUNTED - Premiere

northainan...

i'd say the mic was a great purchase because you're getting good images from the dvx why not have good sound

personally haven't been to any festivals, but a few guys that i know have taken DVDs.

i know you said those were almost the original colours (no cc), but i find that hard to believe because it looks so good. i tried searching for the camera set-up (as per your prompt), but i could not find it. what setup did you use exactly (gamma, etc and extra lenses or filters)

thank you very much

Those settings are in the 1. SCENE FILE,not the 2. CAMERA SET-UP. You can experiment with those settings in that file to get the look you want.

Thanx Novelt for the info.

geradgray, here is before and after so you see what I'm talking about. Also, Novelt, notice that the size of the image is 864x480 ;)

Northanainan, I agree with Novelt that the Mic was a very good purchase. As for the festival question, I am in the process of submitting to film fests right now and every festival is different. Some are ok with DVD, some require HD, some digi beta, very rarely do they require 35mm. A friend of mine here in Miami is telling me that there is good way to transfer to HD from mini dv (I don't recall the technical term) but having a 864 or 854 as per Novelt :) will only help if your blowing up to 1080 as opposed to starting from 720. I also would like to add that I am not a fan of the anamorphic adapter myself, it has some limitations and you get a crisper image with the Leica of the DVX. Sometime it was hard to get really close or focus on subjects so it is a double edged sword. My suggestion is that you rent one for the weekend and see how it works b4 you make the investment.

not to mention it takes a special touch to get it on and off...speaking of frame size. don't know if this is fact, but i was checking out video to film transfer and got a frame size of 1440x1080. which considering this from panavision...

Because of the small size of the 2/3" CCD sensor—less than half the size of a 35mm film frame

so if the dvx has a 1/3 CCD then that would mean...man i was going to give this huge mathmetical explanation and found this...

Director's Guild CCD to Film comparison

and to top it off it's made by panavision. so everyone take a look and see that even with an anamorphic lens you still have a ways to go to fill a film frame. maybe not 16mm and definitely not super 8, but 35mm...whew...

Wow, this just puts everything in perspective doesn't it! Man look at the size of that 70mm Film! Lets all shoot 70 mm from now on! LOL
I'll tell you what though, my next project will most likely be shot in HD, I am considering the HVX still need to take it on a test drive though :)

Hey Moe:

Thanks for the before and after color correction grabs. As I mentioned before, the colors are so vibrant and rich. The before looks really good. The dvx is a super camera. But your color correction really added some warmth. Great job! I have premiere pro (1.5) too. I guess you gotta have an eye for colors because mine don't turn out so good at times. :crybaby:

And thanks for the info on your equipment. It's info a lot of us appreciate.

thinking about sizes (insert your own joke) but it's really amazing considering the dvx or any 1/3 ccd for that matter is actually capturing that much detail in something that is 1/3 of an inch.

Hi Moe
Tried to watch a few times but keep getting "page cannot be found"
Is the link now done ?

I've read all the threads and would love to see it .

Sorry guys exceeded my bandwidth again! It should be working now though. Any ideas on how to compress this file more efficiently? I used mpeg4 compression, is there a way to compress more without losing lots of rez?
You are welcome rszebras :) Novelt I agree it is amazing the quality we are getting out of the 1/3" CCD, do you know what kind of CCD the HVX is using?

it's the same 1/3"

to make sure of that i checked the panasonic site and (off-topic) found out they'll have blu-ray players out in september. then read the varicam data and saw it had a 1280x720 CCD...(3 of them) which gives 1.1million pixels. here i go with the math...that would mean to achieve the film resolution of 35 megapixels you would need a chip at a size of about 7680x4320 which is about 3"

the man who builds that camera will be a zillionaire. then again might need that kinda money to develop that CCD. :)
