Hi,

I am currently on set and I am unable to get my 7D to read any cards that we have, all are san disk extreme III's 8gb 4gb and 2gb.

We have a full 8gb card of footage that cannot be read by or mac.

Has anyone had similar issues that were resolved without scrapping all of the footage?

Thanks,

Zachary

ARe they all new cards? Do you have bent pins in the camera? Or, are there bent pins in the card reader?

CF card reader in the camera is broken (will not read, or format any cards we put in it. other cameras read them without data) ... any ideas for potential causes, or has anyone had similar issues?

We lost 8gb of footage.

Second camera Is picking up the slack.

this is what the files looked like coming off of the camera, I haven't noticed file names like this before.

No bent pins, on each corner one pin is recessed and one is longer than the others, is that normal for compact flash?

I had a problem with my brand new 7D. I pulled out a CF card from my computer and put it in my 7d. Camera said had to format card - no problem I though. Expect it said it couldn't. Weird. So I reformatted on my computer put the card back in the camera and same problem happend.

Tried with 2 other cards, same errors. Called up Canon C.S. and they said I had to return the camera. Great, I managed to brick my camera in 7 days :(

I've only had mine for a month... its scary that this isn't an isolate incident. I'll be calling canon tomorrow as well as visiting the camera store I bought it from.

My sister had the same problem, so when I asked to borrow her camera for testing, She told me to buy memory and or a card reader. I did, it turned out her mac did not like to read the cards.

The reader worked, and a second mac worked, as did my PC.

I use the Extreme III and never had a problem uploading from just my camera...haven't tried a CF reader to my Mac, but it seems like you guys who do are having the problems. Is it maybe a glitch with CF cards that are formatted by the comps and not thru the camera?

Make sure your firmware is updated. Ive' had this issue with CF Cards of the SanDisk brand but I thought it was because I was going from 5D to 7D.

Also, push the card in nice and tight, that actually helped for me.

I haven't been working with UDMA cards.

Kholi...Ive read tons of your posts on RedUser and on here for a looooong time and totally trust your judgement. Why do you not use UDMA cards? I was gonna make the jump to them, but what cards do you use and why not the UDMA's?

Hey Vince,

I had ONE UDMA card (Lexar) before and shooting with that and a Kingston 266x 8GB card I saw no difference at all in image quality. I wasn't about to go and drop a lot of money on UDMA cards at this point when they'll come down in price and go up in Capacity this year.

There's going to be another shift in data storage pricing-to-capacity ratios very very soon, I'm waiting for that if I even decide to invest in UDMA.

Haven't had any issues with my Kingston 8GB 266x's though, however, SanDisks are giving me trouble every now and then as far as popping them back and forth between cameras.

Hello to everyone and thanks a lot for your comments and suggestions.

Sadly, My 7D was bricked. TIM KAY, I feel your pain, hopefully this is a relatively small problem with 7D's and won't give anyone else troubles.

I would however like to thank Pro Photo Supply in Portland, OR they promptly returned my broken kit and gave me a completely new kit.

I'm back up and shooting more stuff, now to buy some more lenses.

Thanks,

Zachary
