Huge holiday sale on Canon Cinema Cameras at B&H

Maybe but not always; these mega deals around this time for so many things - not just cameras - happen every year, but they seem to get better and better.

I've been looking for a Windows gaming laptop (first Windows computer in 25 years) and a lot of models have huge savings (handfuls of hundreds of dollars off for more-than-good-enough models).

How much longer do we have to wait for new Canon cinema cameras... :undecided
 
exactly.

Now I have my own theories that the AF on the current breed is a bit poor vs sony mirrorless and canon mirrorless.

And there is something about RF lenses.. is and af response and the 'third ring' which i love and everybody else is hand is on thier insta account not thier lense to notice.

There might drive a change. or 500fps raw..

Else changing would be GAS?

For me the question is to hunt a used c500 or stcick with the 200. A new rash might help the hunt.
 
It's not even theory, I think it's a fact...mirrorless' AF is much better; especially Canon's mirrorless' vs. their cinema cameras.

Sony's mirrorless' are better with AF than their cinema cameras but the difference gap is smaller.

As an owner of a FX6 and an A1, I'd disagree with that statement. I much prefer the way AF works on the FX6. Have you had experience with both Sony mirrorless and cinema?
 
Yeah, the FX6 was lackluster compared to the a7sIII when I rented both - but that was like ~2.5 years ago and maybe it's changed now. (FX9 was even worse back then.)

Never used the a1, but a7RV is sticky.

In general, stills cameras are built with great dedication to auto-focus so I don't think it would be a surprise to anyone if they behaved better than traditional video cameras in this regard (even though the a7SIII isn't exactly a stills camera in this one example).
 
I could agree with that based on critical-thinking because if you consider all of the software improvements that were made to garbage products way after they were launched then a solid portion of thoughts, opinions, on technology out there in the universe might be considered outdated.

Exactly. People should try to harder to keep up with changes or just not say anything at all.
 
It's also moot because I needed it to work well when I had it in my hands and not a year later after an update. By the time it was improved I was well onto other systems.

And although the camera was a little powerhouse in many ways, the image quality was just okay to me, most of the time, nothing special.

but it is your thread, and I am a Canon guy, and although I don't follow cameras like I used to when I once could name full specs for any model on earth, I will tell you I am excited to see what they do with the R5 II...and when you see the R5 II maybe announced around Jan/Feb, I'd expect cinema incoming a couple of months after that.
 
I was never interested in Canon cameras, their prices were too high, and expensive lenses, although nowadays you can find a c100 at a good price.
 
That's true - and Canon took advantage with their overpriced cameras more than anyone (a 1DC DSLR for $15K? lol) - but you also have to consider the time...

Before the FS7, there was nothing really affordable for common folk from the cinema section besides Blackmagic which was just getting going.

Around 2012-2013, most were using DSLRs for that extra pseudo, full-frame bump in quality...or camcorders.

Now, in 2023, when you have an 8K R5C for sale for $3400, you can't really say the same thing anymore. Plus all of the powerful mirrorless' for even less.
 
Hi Norbro, I think 1dc was 4500 dollars, in 2013 it was considered a cheap camera,
it was more expensive than Sony and Panasonic in terms of DSLRs. Of course, my comments are about 10 years ago!!! everything is different now
