Hpx300 rumors

The pdf file for the HPX301 states it has 3 HD MOS chips. Is that different than CMOS chips?
If this camera can shoot well in low light situations - the bane of 1/3" chip cams - I have no doubt its image quailty will be outstanding.
Jello cam? We'll see....

meh. I rather stick with hpx170, small and so lightweight, its CCD (no rolling shutter) plus, can you imagine putting a 35mm adapter on the hpx300 ? Imagine the length of the entire setup going to be. If you want CMOS and resolution, might as well stick with your current cam and wait for a year or two for the $4000 2/3" Scarlet.

Depends on what you do and how much you do it, yeah? HPX170 lacks severely. As much as mines DOES work I personally still really don't want to use it. So it's kinda being stuck between a rock and a place where the extra money won't keep coming in.

HPX300 could address my own personal issues and keep me in the P2 market.

I'm not too happy with the concept of SCARLET at all. Not spec-wise, but because it's just not gonna be around for a few more years. Kinda pointless to even bring it up until 2011.

HPX300 could finally put to rest the need for more resolution and image clarity if the street price falls around the same amount as the HPX500 is right now. Say about 8,995 or so?

That's what I'm wondering.

What will the street price be in a couple of months with cam and glasses and battery and tripod mount?

If the 500 is now heavily discounted, might we see some good street prices given the economy?

BTW, do we have a total weight with glass and battery for the cam?

To compete with the EX3, you are going to have to see street retail of less than $9k.

Kholi, I am your sponsor, remember? I beg of you, don't buy that shiny new toy! The regret and loss of money when you sell the month after just isn't worth it ;-)

Dan

Well this looks fascinating - i mean i operate an hpx500 myself atm for higher end stuff i do, and an hvx200, so what about an hpx300, are we talking a lighter cam with shoulder mount comparable to the xl (proportion wise) and weight wise?

Hmm it'll be interesting likes! I think a lot of folk will imagine people rushing to the hpx300 simply due to res but unless rolling shutter issues are er magically cured lol i think id still be wary.

However the price may well be encouraging and all the other goodies make it look like a great and cheap (relatively) addition to hvx/ hpx170 line up!!

Quite honestly folks will be spoilt for choice !

LOL. I won't push any "purchase now" buttons until I see some footage on this one. I just KNEW the HPX170 was gonna be just as good an image as the 200A, so I jumped on in and got BURNED by some scaldin' hot water. Sure, the functionality is great, but I pretty much abhor the image these days.

If the 300's image and price are right, sorry Dan... gonna have to!

RE: Rolling Shutter -- Here's my take and only MY take. The worst problem you could encounter with rolling shutter, to me, would be the wrong light. The rolling lines in footage? I'd murder someone.

The rest is just no big deal at all. There are way too many people Rocking the house on REDs daily. Go watch MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D and tell me how much the rolling shutter bothered you.

Yay when it goes global! For now, it's just the trade-off for a CLEAN and PRISTINE image to work with. I'm willing to take it.

what the hell... i don't get something, where does hpx300 fit ? between hpx170 and hpx500 ? avc intra for 1/3inch cmos camera?

A couple things. One is it clearly says that the chips are 1920X1080 in the pdf. And what is the scan reverse function for cinema lenses? How is it different from the flip feature in the 170. And this with a relay with an adapter without flip and a 35mm lens wouldn't be that long, correct? Not much longer than the Fujinon it comes with.

Depends on the Relay. I can't see a Letus Ultimate + B4 PRO being much longer than the pictures Im seeing if at all.

Then there's the shorter relay option as well.

Barry reminded me that Letus has a 1/3" Relay already available. I believe it was for the HD100 and works on the XL-H1 as well. food for thought.

I suppose it fits a little awkwardly in between those two you mention tomas, i mean avc intra seems like panny is naturally integrating its better codec with its obviously more recent cam model probably to take advantage better of its full res (er yeah guys?) Where as the Cmos (blurgh) is to make that full res possible in a camera at a price point available.

Some EX users are probably bemoaning the irony of this and i dont blame them. However, this camera has been made to compete with the EX, and others... It may not be for everyone for this reason - but its appeal to those who do wish to chase res at all costs - and within what appears to be a cute (and genuine shoulder setup as opposed to ex3) will be appealing.

Tomas - this is a direct appeal to a market segment that sony was exploiting and in that sense its irrelevant to panny whether it 'fits' neatly within its line up - though id certainly place it between the 500 and 170/200 etc.

We should not also that the EX despite its pricepoint retained some features which were frustratingly absent from higher priced sony models lol

- I know this is an impossible question lol, but what about mini 35 adapter solutions for the hpx300 - how would that er in theory work? // Oops just saw your post there Kholi, so theres a cute 1/3 relay that you could just clunk onto the hpx300 possibly? That would be neat!

yeah if you dont mind paying $3500 or $6500 for a relay on top of the $10,500 + buying new AB or IDX pro Batteries and Charger and buying a bigger tripod to support the weight of the cam.

What irony ? The only irony is how Panasonic based its campaign on "CMOS/Sony is jello vision". Now look who is jigglin'.

Depends! Hold j00 horses. LOL.

I said earlier that the 1/2" Relay for the EX3 might be a good option, and remember... there's already a 1/3" Relay and several solutions exisiting for the HD100 and XL-H1 cameras...

It might be a lot less expensive than anyone realizes.

And what is the scan reverse function for cinema lenses? How is it different from the flip feature in the 170.
Based only on reading the PDF, it sounds like the HPX300 can actually record flipped for adapters, while the 170 can only display flipped, but not record.

They may have temporarily held manufacturing but I don't see why they couldn't update their existing product, match it with the current relays and put it back out.

Just won't be immediately.

Well that is the irony I mean old boy :) - That said it doesnt change anything - ie, its not that God himself has come onto Earth and gone 'yes my children, cmos is what i allllways wanted.' Its that Panny has probably gone - right lets give the gimps a full res cam or we'll lose trade to the fancy pics that get posted from the EX. Okay thats a ridiculous generalisation (strike that) It just depends i guess. I don't find it ironic that panny would say one thing to hype one set of cams and then do the opposite.

Thats capitalism...

However i find it ironic in general the way this issue is played, emoted, and manipulated again in general hrmph. That said i am eager to see what this can do and whether the rolling shutter issues are similar etc.
