This camera, while 1/3" chips vs. 1/2", addresses the Sony EX3's price point, while providing a better form factor, full raster recording, and a codec that blows XDCAM EX away. That is what Panasonic was aiming for.
better form factor, ok, that wasn´t hard. If the full raster equates to resolution comparable to SONY shall be seen. And I have seen some great stuff from the EX codec and while there are problems they are far less as feared. After all many users transcode to Apple ProRes anyway. And DVCPro is having problems of its own (esp. noise).
Can´t wait to see stuff. The line that catches my eyes: Panasonic also claims that the pixel density on the CMOS chip is lower that comparable sensors.
That could mean it is a 1/3 inch chip with 1/2 inch character?! Wishful thinking maybe?
