HPX170 Pricing Set

I'm seeing $5695.00 with 16 GB card as MSRP from a couple of sources.

One company (not SC) has it at $5195.00.

Still a little uncertain ship date, but that price is pretty good I believe.

Nice deal... so for early adopters of the HVX.. that's like a grand off due to the 16 giger.. I was hoping they would include a 32 gig card instead

Revised and updated to include everything new about the HPX170, plus an overview on using the waveform and vectorscope and the new focus assists, translation tables for converting HVX scene files into HPX170 scene files for the differing master pedestal, focal length translation tables, etc...

Glad the revised edition is out this soon and you were able to make the shipping date. Im really looking forward to it!

Is the noise situation going to be much much better or only slightly better? Panasonic should be ashamed of themselves for putting out the HVX200.

Oh for the love of -- you've got to be kidding, grossly misinformed, trolling, or -- well, I'll stop here.

This is a profoundly offensive statement. There are tens of thousands of shooters worldwide who've done very, very well with their HVX200s, and the HVX has the same noise level as the HD100 and about the same as the Canon.

Using that logic, I suppose Edison should be ashamed for putting out that first lightbulb that wasn't too bright and didn't last all that long...
Actually Edison's first light bulb is still going strong. He used a thicker filament which makes the bulb last forever. Companies realized this wasn't good for sales so they made the filament weaker.

As for the other poster's comments regarding the HVX, well the less said the better.

that comment was a jackass statement to say the least. In January 06 this was the best camera on the market and I'm still using it to get gigs and get paid. As Barry has mentioned before.. you buy what you can afford that'll be best for what you need to do and get to work making things happen.

I've been so highly impressed with Panny for its disclosure and for Jan being on this site. You don't see any of the other camera reps being so forthright and upfront. the only gripe I've had is that they don't give us Mac users equal and suitable support.. but that's minor.

I have a decision to make on my next camera and I think it'll be the 170. I've been happy with the panny and I just don't know what else that can be as comforting and suppportive.. Personally monster should be ashamed for being so obtuse!

Monster's comments show lack of perspective. Panasonic change the prosumer market with the release of the HVX200. I worked with this camera for almost 2 years and it was the most fun and value for the buck ever in my (almost) 20 years on this industry.

Right now we have one reasonable upgrade with the 200a and a cool cheaper option with the HPX170. Both cameras improve on the fantastic qualities of the 200 and Panasonic is really committing to release P2 products with larger capacity for a better price. So, as far as being ashamed, I don't see why.

Sony with the EX-1 and now with the EX-3 took it to a new level. These products are not without flaws but certainly improve on the equivalent Panasonic line at similar price level (under U$10K).

This will probably never happened without the HVX200.

Alex.. that is an insightful comment. I am looking at the EX cam and I like it's low-light funcionality, but it's handheld configuration leaves a lot to be desired. It's time to move from play mode to record mode is also crazy. 14 seconds is just way to long... They also put the video output ports on the wrong side and ultimately who knows how long it'll hold up.

I think Monster should respond to these posts and list his reasoning behind the bafoonery (sp)

So Barry, I take it you've seen and tested the production model! From the 2nd look article it sounded as if you hadn't seen the final production model as of yet. Anything new to report ?

cheers,

JP
