HPX170 Lens Wobble Improved

Hi,

The Panasonic Service Center in Secaucus can be used when we figure this out.

As far as shipping, warranty service is counter service, that it you need to get it to the counter at the service center. So if you have to ship it, Panasonic will pay for the return shipping and will return it in the same method. So overnight shipping in, then overnight shipping back.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Secaucus is about 50 minutes away.... Will you guys cover gas and tolls if I drive up? haha, just kidding Jan, thanks for being helpful.

Hmmm, not covering shipping. I already spent $55.00 shipping to get a defective camera. Now more shipping costs to get it to work as it should. Hmmm.

My first panic attack came when I tried to install the battery and then the ac adapter plate in the HPX170. I couldn't get them to seat properly. I tried several times. Finally, I decided to use more pressure than I normally would to seat these power sources and it worked. Now they seat normally without undo amounts of tactile pressure. I just couldn't believe how much force I had to originally use.

I got the HPX170 primarily for legal video applications. I want to shoot with just the time/date stamp downstreamed. So far I have been able to eliminate all the display data except the time/date stamp and the timecode counter. Is there a way that I can turn off the timecode counter in the display?

this thread is about the wobble issue. there's a technical section for these questions. let's try and keep this to pertinent info about the issue at hand. or try this thread:

Jan,
I'm only assuming that Panasonic will not cover shipping. If this is true, can we visit a near by location to have it repaired same day? I'm concerned about down time and further costs.

Jay

Hey Jay, I thought you were returning your camera to B&H. I don't think the response would be this fast if a Sony camera had a problem.

I feel your frustration, but I suppose it was unrealistic to expect them to cover shipping.
I only wish they had more repair centers. Last time I sent my HVX200 in it cost me over $100
(seeing as I insured it as well, which I think is probably the prudent thing to do).

If that's the case, I may hold off on sending mine in.
Too many other unexpected expenses already this month.

I am looking at your post on page 53, but I have a page 54 showing that I can't access, it just defaults back to this page.

I have never before seen this weird page count thing here.

Best,

Dan

so what's the final word with this?
has everyone just wedged old fingernail clippings in their lens and moved on?

It is correct. For all practical purposes the lens assembly IS the camera.. so you're shifting the camera's position. It's actually a shift in perspective, rather than image shifting...
If it were just the lens shifting and not the CCDs, there would be some distortion in the image... something like tilt-shift lens in still photography. There would also be some serious focus issues as well.

Amazing that sometimes we need 47 pages to get the terminology of the problem correct. Thanks for helping me understand (you too, Andrew). I was curious about the camera's internals.

As I said last page, it's not that we can't get to the end of the thread, it's that the counter is broken and gives the illusion there's another page there when there really isn't.

*Hey, I found Jan giving a short pitch for the HPX170:
