How well does Firestore work without P2 in camera?

Still waiting for my free P2 Card but my Firestore FS-100 is in. I'd like to start
shooting but I've read that even if you're not using the P2 card, it should be in the
camera for the Firestore to work properly.

Does anybody have any advice? Thanks.

The HVX-200 must be in p2 mode, and 1394 Control should be set to “Both” to record to p2 cards and the FS-100 simultaneous.

Otherwise, use the “Ext.” choice to record exclusively to the FS-100. Set the FS-100 to “Tapeless” in its “Control” Menu.

Never read you needed a p2 card to be inserted for make the FS-100 work properly. That's the whole reason for having the Firestore.

We just shot a ton of footage direct to the Firestore using the "external" setting for 1394 and no P2 cards. No problems whatsoever.
