GH3 How to stop the display info from disappearing?

Somewhat on topic, but not a perfect solution.

When using a monitor, I was able to get the display to stay on. Audio levels, TC, record tally, battery life, record duration, time left on card...

I was recording for over an hour & all the info stayed up on the HDMI display (I had shut off the camera's screen).

I used the GH3 for a few hours and I found the disappearing info so annoying that I returned it. But I did not try an external monitor. It's a much quicker fix than waiting for a firmware update. Thanks for the tip!

Not sure how you did this but I'm using an external HDMI display and the info disappears after 10s or so, just like it does on the OLED.

Is there any advice on how to turn the auto-brightness of the lcd screen off? When shooting in a dark environment, it shows the image brighter than it actually is. When you take the picture, it is of course according to the light meter, but the preview is not.
I'm not sure now if this happens in movie mode as well.

There is a function that sets the brightness of the screen that has 3 options. Automatic, *1 and *2. None of them seems to make a difference. What does *1 mean anyway?

I just tested my GH3 with my SmallHD DP4 and the screen info shuts off at the same time as the info on the GH3's OLED.... :(

Are you guys shutting of the GH3's screen as he suggested?

Granted that still doesn't fix my problem of being able to adjust audio while recording (unless there is another way of doing it other than the GH3's touch screen controls?), but it's still better than nothing. Thanks for the tip.

I tried both shutting off the screen and keeping it on using the Fn5 button. I realize that this is just transferring the viewing to the EVF but I wasn't sure how to completely turn off both the built in viewers.

I turned off the OLED via the fn5 button. Didn't check to see if the EVF turned on. The screen was facing out, not closed into the body (if that matters).

The OLED display & the HDMI display are not perfect mirrors of each other. (At least the font size takes up much less screen "estate" on the HDMI monitor than the OLED.) Which to me says that the camera processes them differently. So maybe the trick is to shut off the OLED to keep the display on the HDMI.

I get a chance to test it out, I'll post my findings. But lots of editing to do, so it won't be too soon.

I even didn't like the info disapearing and would be happy if it stays on-screen.
Have my GH3 for a week now and I was thinking I did something wrong in the menu but for now, disapearing is a feature.
Hopefully Panasonic will bring out a new firmware or this device will be also hacked.

Any updates on this?

I am currently using a Canon 6D and love the full frame video, hate the moire.

Looking to get the Gh3, but as a News shooter, I really need those volume levels to be up constantly as I don't have the luxury of having an external monitor whilst always on the run.

Panasonic says its for protecting the OLED screen from burning .
I dont think pany is going to change this...only Vitalyi acn , if and when hack the GH3.

Does the record display go out? That would bother me. I would think most times you would set up for the shot. If the displays goes off you are not going to change anything when it is recording. If you don't want to touch the screen you are not going to want to touch the controls. With my DVX100b I'll mostly just watch to see how much time I have left on the tape and if the lighting changes etc I'm going to stop recording and adjust anyway.
But it should be an option

I guess I don't mind the VF info disappearing, I got into the habit of using the Panasonic wired remote back when I was using the GH2 on steadicam and I still use it all the time, a half-push on the button brings up the info whenever I need to see it without jarring the cam or stopping/starting the recording.

I understand about protecting the OLED from burn in, but I still think they should give us the option to keep the display info on screen indefinitely. I can't keep pressing the Display button during an interview just to check audio levels or the other settings. I hope this is in the next firmware upgrade.

Another option would be for them to keep the 10 second limit on the Display Info but then make the EVF proximity sensor capable of reactivating it so I could just wave my hand in front of the EVF instead of touching the camera buttons. Would this appeal to anyone else besides me?

I like that! Additionally, just having the option to disable/enable it all together would be great as well.
