GH3 How to stop the display info from disappearing?

Hi,

For some reason I didn't get an english(or norwegian) manual with my camera, so I have a quick question:
After about 10 seconds of recording most of the on screen info disappears, including vital things like audio meters ect. I have to hit a button for it to reappear.
I'm sure this is just a simple menu setting, but where is it?

Thanks!

OK, so I found an info box in the manual that says:
"• If approximately 10 seconds elapses without an operation being performed, part of the display will disappear. Press [DISP.] or touch the monitor to make the display reappear."

I seriously hope there is a way to leave this info on the display permanently, but I can't find it... Anyone?

Having to touch buttons every 10 seconds if you're doing an interview or something is hardly very intuitive.

I'm sure theres an option in menu to disable that just like auto evf/screen switch....or very well hope so.

I haven't found the option to disable that either and if it's by design, that was a dumb decision considering if you run this thing on a stabilizer, you're not going to be touching the screen.

Not to mention those of us who want the info on screen regardless. Steadicam or tripod or monopod or dolly.. I want the info to stay on the screen.

Exactly!

No reason whatsoever for this "feature" when those who don't want the info there can easily disable it with the disp button. I'm pretty sure most people want it on there all the time.
If anyone have contact with someone influential at Panasonic please tell them what a dumb idea this "feature" is.

I can say that this flaw would be sufficient for me to pass on the GH3. I do hope someone finds a menu setting to correct the error.

My final post here in this thread as I need to comment on this. From your recent posts it seems you never wanted the GH3 in the first place, then you liked and now you flip flopped again. In my opinion what I see from a lot of users or people in generally is that they actually do not even really use these tools. Anyone who has used a GH3 (myself included) can tell you how much better of a camera it is. Things like info on the display or moire/aliasing is no reason at all not to get this camera.

I come from a world where we look at the glass half full and not empty. GH2 with the hack is able to achieve some great images, but my problem with the camera are serious. Iso above 800 is very noisy, the camera is a poor build and the lcd screen is also not very good. The GH3 for me addressed all of these issues. The camera feels excellent in hands has a beautiful display and iso 1600 is very clean.

I think sometimes we get caught up in the thought of my camera is fine, no need to upgrade and then defend it. I can tell you on all fronts that the GH3 is a better camera. Image is cleaner and has many options over the Gh2. It only cost about $100 to rent a GH3, I'm more than sure once you use it there's no going back.

It's great to pixel peep, but it's even better to actually create art and productions, I mean that's the reason we do this. Even if the GH2 in some peoples opinion was a better camera, it doesn't matter if your not doing anything with it..... GH2 or GH3 just go out and create something that will be remembered and inspire others. Personally I love the GH3 and feel it is a better. I will be posting some new material from it soon

Peace

I noticed the disappearing of info too but could not find a way to work around it. It will be nice at least we have an option to leave the info on. Hopefully, a future firmware upgrade will give us the option to leave the info on. Fingers crossed.

I don't have a GH3 yet, but looking at page 59 in the user manual, does setting "Monitor Info Display" (in the Custom Menu) to "ON" cause the on-screen text to persist?

The manual is a bit confusing on this point, but it may also be necessary for the "Monitor Display Style" to be set to "Monitor Style", too (icon with dots at top & bottom).

Again, I don't know if the above addresses this issue, but maybe ...

I'm a newcomer to the GH2 (August), and have been interested in the GH3 since I first heard about it. At this point, I'm not seeing enough of am improvement in image quality to justify the cost of the GH3. I do see some very nice features that make me want to spend the money, but IQ alone hasn't yet convinced me. If anything, IQ seems slightly degraded over what I'm getting from my GH2 with the Cluster v7 AN DREWnet hack. Maybe I just haven't yet seen the right comparisons, who knows.

But to have a fairly standard (and for my needs, critical) feature like this go missing on the new model...that's a tough pill to swallow. I'd need something really spectacular from the camera for me to overlook this flaw, and so far I'm not seeing it. Not saying it isn't there, just that I haven't found it yet.

Just tried those suggestions now. No luck I'm afraid.

It'll be resolved in a future firmware I'm sure.

It is something that bothered me for a while but I just half touch the shutter botton or another button and it all pops back up. No doubt something that was overlooked and will get fixed in a firmware update if enough feedback comes to Panasonic about the issue.

Only solution it seems.
It is also annoying that if you want to change a setting after the info is hidden, you have to press the button twice. Once to "wake" up the camera and once to activate the setting. Same goes for moving the focus point in the touch screen.

Things like this and the ETC not working when assigned to a Function Button are things we need to be able to get reported to Pana for an early upgrade/bug fix.

Yes!
If anyone have any good places to report these things where it will actually be read by the right people, please let us know!
