How to import P2 in a 15 unibody MBP???

Just bought the new Mac Book Pro unibody 15" laptop. There's no express card slot to fit the duel adapter into... What to do?

Using the camera as a drive is not an option as transfers seem to take longer and there's no downtime for the camera with some shoots.

Is there any other adapter out there that will accept a P2 card via the firewire 800 port? The SD port? Anything? The thought of dropping $1500 for the Panasonic P2 reader is grim.

Before I go out and buy a used Powerbook with a PCMCIA are there any other options?

The new MBPs are the most incompatible P2 offloading computers on the market. There are options for it, like the PCD20 FW800 reader, or using the camera itself via USB.

If you want cheap/fast, look outside the box. If you want an affordable option, forget using the MBP and instead look into Jason Adams' experiments with the Lenovo S10e with the Addonics adapter. Under $400 gets you an offloading station with 160GB of storage, and very very fast offload speeds. Offload to an external drive; unplug that drive from the Lenovo and plug it into the MBP and edit the footage. No problem.

or you can pick up a used older powerbook for $200-$400 on ebay/craigslist/local pawnshop and be done with it. not having to mess with adapters or the hellish existence that is windows...

i still have an old beat up powerbook that works great for field offloading.

Doesn't a Powerbook take a minute per gig to download though? And what's the battery life? And hard drive size?

Jason says he can offload a full 16GB card in under 5 minutes, you can get an 8-hour battery, and the internal drive is 160GB.
