I have never seen Canon dslr this sharp/cinematic at least not my footage. I'm selling my 60d asap and need to know some info regarding the Gh2 and hack. this looks like it's the 150mbs hack.
thanks

How stable and where can I read more about the Gh2 hack? (Switching from Canon)

I've decided to sell my Canon dslr to use the Gh2 with the hack. Seeing what people are doing is amazing, where can I read about the best version, what cards I need and how to be best protected?

Thanks

Here you go:

Most compatible card with ANY hack:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=B007NDL54C&linkCode=as2&tag=httpwwwchr07c-20

Note that it isn't mandatory. It's only for higher bitrate hacks, and for the most stable spanning (4GB limit = camera splits up continous recording into multiple files). I'm using that and a Transcend 16B Class 10 card with Canis Majoris Night on 24L (lower bitrate version; 97mbps) with no issues.

Watch the video below. Apply the No adverse Affects settings described in that how to video. Those settings are actually more stable than the stock settings at twice the bit rates. They will work with any card without failures. If you find you need more bit rate than that then start exploring the other more aggressive settings.

Sorry but your seeing things i am not,the content was boring in the extreme as well.

There is the hack, which you will find over at personal-view, called ptool. But there are also "patches", which are essentially predetermined settings for the hack. For instance, the video you posted says it is using "Driftwoods Quantum X 'Orion' v4", which is a patch.

You would download the hack (ptool) from the personal-view website, as well as the patch, and load the patch before applying it. You can find patches here on DVX as well, lpowell is another popular patcher.

As for SD cards, get a UHS-1 compatible card for the higher bit rate hacks. Whether or not it is stable depends on the patcher, but you can't go wrong with Driftwood or lpowell.

I suppose we better expect an influx of these threads after the Zacuto shootout.

There are stickies on here explaining how to hack.
And Personal View is the place to follow if you want to keep up with the latest.

My decisions has nothing to do with Zacuto shootout, and more so with my own two eyes..... So don't worry about an "influx" in threads

Here's a link to the thread with complete info on Flow Motion v2:

GH2 100Mbps Flow Motion v2 Patch

  • Reliable 100Mbps peak performance in AVCHD 24H, HBR, FSH, SH, and MJPEG HD.
  • Exclusive 140Mbps turbo mode boosts peak bitrate to handle 80% Slow-Motion 24H mode.
  • Records reliably with all Class 10 SD cards, with 60Mbps file-spanning in 24L, FH, and H modes.
  • 95MB/sec SD cards support file-spanning in all video modes (except NTSC 30p and 60i modes).
  • Full support for all NTSC and PAL video modes and options, including ETC zoom mode.
  • In-camera playback of all AVCHD video files. (MJPEG HD videos not playable in-camera.)
  • Failsafe operation with any lens, in any video mode, under any type of shooting conditions.
  • Consumer-friendly auto-exposure features fully supported in 60Mbps 24L, FH, and H modes.
  • Fast Action 3-Frame GOP performance with B-frames visibly indistinguishable from I-frames.
  • Optimal motion picture quality consistently maintained in underexposed low-light conditions.

"Failsafe operation" means it won't go back into fallback mode right? Also can you determine if it has gone into fallback mode just with streamparser alone? If so what denotes fallback mode in streamparser?

Yes, in engineering practice "failsafe" is not a synonym for "infallible", it describes a system that operates in a safe manner in the event of failure. With the unhacked GH2 firmware, the unsafe aspect of the GH2's built-in Fallback Mode is that it can significantly degrade the image quality of a completed video clip without any warning to the user. In the worst case, this means that with the unhacked GH2, there is no assurance or means of verifying that any of your footage was recorded with the intended image quality. The only way I know of to confirm this is to examine the encoding of each MTS video file with cbrandin's Stream Parser. In the fourth post of the Flow Motion v2 thread linked above, I detailed how Stream Parser can be used to detect Fallback Mode in unhacked GH2 videos:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?283724-GH2-100Mbps-Flow-Motion-v2-Patch-Banding-amp-Blocking-Be-Gone!&p=1986152358&viewfull=1#post1986152358

For my production workflow, it would be wildly impractical to examine all of my footage in Stream Parser before importing it into my video editor. For me, the bottom line in reliability is absolute assurance that all completed takes have been recorded without error at the intended level of image quality. To achieve this level of failsafe operation with the GH2, I engineered Flow Motion v2 to explicitly disable the camera's Fallback Mode mechanisms. After verifying that Fallback Mode can no longer occur, I then developed techniques to stabilize the encoder at peak bitrates up to 100Mbps. As a result, the GH2 with Flow Motion v2 is not only highly reliable - it's failsafe and in the rare event that it becomes overstressed it will stop recording rather than produce a corrupted or degraded video file. In my view, this is what it takes to make the GH2 suitable for use in a production workflow.

I've mainly been using flow motion, the results are awesome and I've never had any stability issues.

Do you have anything useful to post in my thread? Why aren't you out somewhere filming instead of worrying about what I do with my $$. the way I see it is you have posted two bs posts in my thread and are contributing nothing but non sense. Do yourself and mine a favor and worry about you, if you are not here to help, motivate or inspire you truly have no idea what the love of film making is.

Gh2 with the hack is now able to do things I simply couldn't with my canon, also out of all of the camera in the Zacuto shoot out I hated B the most which was the Gh2.... What I do know is, with the right lenses, framing light I can achieve the vision I want. So before you go judge mental on anyone in life first listen to their story.

peace
