How many would compete?

Hmm, never heard of "The Game"... I can't believe I haven't either, since it has one of my favorite actors, Sean Penn... time to make a trip to the video store...

So Elton, you coming to shoot in Tokyo? Hmmm, if any serious people did actually want to come to Tokyo, do a collaboration, get yourself here and free accomodation etc.

Cool thought. I might be able to score a buddy pass from an in-law that works for an airline. :)

Yep--considering it among some other options.
Oh boy! I hope my camera can enter (Sony DSR450)!!! Woo hoo! I sure hope non-1/3" cameras (like my 2/3" DSR450) will still be able to compete, but I understand if I can't.

Ralph not sure if I am mistaken or not, but from reading posts I saw under $10k cameras.

This is exciting. There's going to be a lot of jazzed up, pumped up folksk this next fest. New crews, and an interesting topic, thanks to JH. SPY-FEST. Welcome to the fests, guys, and gals.

Hey Rez--You just gotta keep one hand tied behind your back-- shoot with wide DOF and add lots of noise. Get that 1/3" look down pat and you'll be golden! Does anyone make a 1/3" DOF adapter? ;)

Seriously, there seems to be a general agreement about the 1/3" Sub $10K limitation, but who knows? We'll see what the rules are.

Is that right? Under $10K? Well my camera was $15K in a kit including bricks/charger/bag, less a $3000 Sony rebate. So it was really only $12K. And, $12K, less the value of the bricks/charger/case (worth about $1500), brings me down to $10,500. If you value the body alone, without the lens, it could maybe be argued that the body alone is valued at <$10K, since the lens alone sells for $2,700 unbundled. My tricky math aside, a new DSR450 body still sells for $10,995, but it's actually much cheaper to buy in a kit (although the rebate is no longer offered). What do you think, Barry?

Hopefully the rule will lean a little more on the side of the entrant having a verifiable active forum history, not so much if the camera is 1/3" or not.

I couldn't care less if the user had a Viper as long as they were making it for this fest and there was a mechanism to verify that.

And how many high-end camera owners or renters would want to go to
the trouble of making a 6 min. short for an online festival with some minor prizes?

Maybe some would do it for some kind of bragging rights, but it doesn't personally worry me. The overwhelming majority will be doing this with 1/3" Sub 10K cams, so if that becomes the rule, at least it's fairly logical.

Maybe we can have a Rezfactor grandfather'd clause. ;)

If anybody's getting grandfathered in, I'd vote RezFactor has earned that right.

Agreed, none of the affordable camcorders owned by DVX users get in the way of making a quality movie.

I think Barry_S is still hammering out the final details. He's a busy guy  Give it some time. They will be up soon enough, and you will have plenty of time to make your flick :)

Spyfest will be the first fest I enter, cause I bought me a HVX at last. that's to say I manage to complete the short in time.

And I am very comfortable with the idea that the canon, etc... guys can enter into the fest, after all, we have the advantage of having the best camera of them all, hie hie hie :-) HVX Rules !!!

Yes, winning a nice prize is a good "motivational factor", but I think the experience of sharing and learning with all the people of DVXuser far outweighs any prize in value. (but a small prize is always welcome, ha ha...).

Just my thoughts,

Thanks,
Derrick
