How many would compete?

We can always make Spyfest the testbed for allowing non DVX/HVX cameras to compete. If it gets to be a bit much, then keep it Panny only.

Only problem with that is, once other people (non Panny owners) find out that there's a new contest and prizes are available, then the contests might get flooded with entries...

Ok, based in the feedback I'm getting from some users and mods I'm going to make a proposal to Jarred that we do a trial run including some other class of cameras for Spy-Fest. There will likely be some provisions(s) that help limit the size of the fest. I'll be posting the Spy-Fest rules this weekend, so everyone will see how this shakes out in a few days.

sheesh, you consider a "coffee" film to easily fall under "OTHER CAMERAS"?

Shame on you!

LOL WTF EVER Jay. I just had to plug OTHER CAMERAS to shorten the post.

If this goes forward--the winning filmmaker will have to let Jarred take his best shot at their gut as part of the prize. That should discourage casual entries. :)

I'd gladly take a punch in the stomach from Jared. :)

Did you read my suggestion?:

I think an easy way to keep a lid on the amount of films entered would be to only allow members who have a certain post count to enter or even a certain "date joined" limit so that some new dudes who caught wind of the fest doesn't just pop in and then leave.

I'd say there should be a prize (or at least a title) for the best OC, just like there's an Oscar for the best foreign film. And hey, Barlow, if you can swing Canon into donating an HV20 for a grand prize, we'll give it away no doubt! :) I think Jarred's wallet, and my wallet, are still smarting over buying the HorrorFest HVX, so we may not be so much into buying one, but look how VariZoom stepped up to the plate this time...

No guarantees, but I'll see if it's possible. I can definitely understand why'd you'd be leery of stepping up to the plate with a friggin' HVX again!

Barry S--I hope you can come up with a good plan to keep the contest open to legitimate contributing members.

This should be fun. :)

btw, I would be happy to author an HD DVD (or just QT HD files) for for say, top finalists in both categories. Might be fun to see some of the many high def entries in their full glory.

We've seriously debated whether upping the prizes was a good idea at all, especially after Jarred and I (and Pete from Abel) spent thousands each to put up an HVX as the top prize last time.

Heck, I don't even need a prize! I just didn't like the idea of entering a festival and feeling like I'm the odd person out just because I didn't shoot with a DVX or an HVX. Opening it up to other cameras would definitely get me interested .

OKay, I would seriously consider entering Spyfest if the competition was opened up beyond Panny cams. If I can't do this one, definitely other competitions in the future.

Too cool disjecta but you gotta jump in brother.

Elton that would be awesome to see them all (HVX/A1/H1?others) in HD.
