how many have the strap on the gh2

Are you pros using the strap that comes with the camera? I find that It's mostly in the way, guess I won't say that if I drop the cam.

I don't get paid enough to consider myself a pro, but I use the neck strap on my camera.

It's kind of a love hate relationship with it. I like being able to put it around my neck, I pull it tight and/or strap it close to use as a support for steadier videos, good for taking street "stealth" video/photography with it hanging off my neck at stomach height.

But it gets in my way sometimes, in the way of the LCD if I have it waist height. Annoying when on a tripod or other mount system. I was consider changing the strap to either single handed hooked on the righthand side or a quick detachable sort of strap

hopefully they have fixed the strap rivets in the gh2. i hand hold my gh1 with fear of the strap rivets breaking especially with my heavy primes.

in nearly 2 decades of work. ive never used a strap on anything. if i were a still shooter, with multiple bodies - sure. but it just gets in the way for most of my video purposes

I use it just as a safety feature. This is a very small easily droppable camera that encourages handholding. That said- one drop and it would be pretty much a total loss. So yeah I think it's worth the strap if not even upgrading to something more robust/custom- Zacuto or what have you .

At first I kept the strap on the cam until I got my rig setup, it was in the way so i removed it. I would like to find a strap that could be clipped on and off easily when It's not on the full rig.

I wear the strap. It's annoying how it bumps into the LCD and the mic input area, but I put up with it.

The strap encourages use, and helps prevent drops. Two good enough reasons to put up with the hassle when on the tripod shooting video.

If I had just a camera with no support I will use a strap. You can pull it tight and it will give you a little more stability handheld.

I find the strap hideously uncomfortable.
Bangs against my chest when I walk.
It gets in the way. It's just an annoyance.

If I need to carry the camera I use a small case with a shoulder strap.

If I want the camera in my hand, I use an optech wriststrap.
I find it more comfortable, more secure.

When shooting stills my favorite DSLR rig is the camera + grip + leather wrist-strap so the camera will stay stuck to my hand even if I let go of it. ( different camera but same idea )

I wish that Panasonic would release a proper grip for the GH-2.

+1 I don't like how small the gh2 is. A grip would make it more substantial and easier to hold.

I actually cut the strap rings and body rivets off my GH1 so i'm not tempted to use the strap.

I use a strap from apexcam from ebay... comes with a sling, quick connect plate and lock ring.

basically you have the sling on with a lock ring on it that slides up and down. Then the quick connect plate connects to bottom thread of cam and has its own thread to attach other gear like monopod. on the side of it allows you to use the lock ring to attach to the sling. from there, it hangs on my right side of hip. I then pull it up when I need to shoot and works as a great point of contact with stability.

After my lug failed on my GH1, I switched to the Black Rapid strap, even though I glued in the lugs more securely. I like the Black Rapid because it attaches to the bottom of the camera and the weight of the camera is on my shoulder and not the back of my neck.

I have a BlackRapid on my GH2. Great strap. I connect it to a Manfrotto quick release when I'm not using a monopod or tripod, and to a camera lug when I need to use the quick release on a "...pod". I'm still fine-tuning my process, but overall it works well.

Regards,

Dan.

I use a hand strap kinda like this--

--when I'm doing street photography. When shooting video my GH2 is on a cage shoulder or tripod mounted. I hate the strap that came with it.

I use the same thing.. The hand grip is awesome. I got one off Ebay for like 10 bucks and it's been a super good purchase.... I hate the strap.. just gets in the way. I've also used this with a bracket on the otherside and mounted a few things... super light and easy to adjust.
