GH5 How interested are you in a GH6 anymore?

I don't use cases or have any issues with software or performance, but I know some people just like to be grumpy.

I see it in every single industry/forum for all of my interests (video games, computers, sports, lifting weights, running, collecting cards)...people are always complaining about something, ha.

Stop complaining and be grateful; you likely lived more than half of your life without a cell phone.

Presume much?

I'll be grateful and likewise I'll be "grumpy" as I choose. I prefer to think critically and criticize as justified, with merit. Sticking my head in the sand regardless of evidence to the contrary, is not an option.

Your characterization of my post is ironic given that this is now a 43 page thread chock full of folks listing and stating their complaints and disappointments with various cameras.

And, I'm still not entirely sure I was better off, for living less than half of my life with a cell phone.

Yeah, I presumed much because you joined this forum in 2004 so I can make an educated guess going by that.

I didn't ask for your opinion but if you're going to quote something so insignificant I said to one person while answering a question 5 days ago then it sounds like you'd like to have a conversation about it.

I had to go back a few pages to see what you were even talking about.

So, if you do - and if you think critically and criticize as justified, with merit - then why don't you tell me more about which iPhone you have, or iPad, and what kind of software or performance issues you're having rather than telling me you want to "hurl" when describing your vague dissatisfaction?

Wouldn't that be more critical in my understanding of your POV?

I'm also interested in which screen protectors you use without them affecting [too much] the natural touchscreen functionality of the devices? For multi-touch gestures, gaming, speed editing in various applications?

And it's different with cameras. Panasonic is an amazing company who can make a really great system with anything that's complained about but doesn't (or can't) and it's frustrating.

There is not much to complain about besides AF, which has already been said 34435634534543 times in other threads, and like 6374545 times by me.

This is an open forum, it's not necessary to wait for your invitation for my opinion. It's pretty much, for sure, and inherently implied that one is free to respond to another individuals posts on a forum. You appear to be offended that I'm not as (apparently) unconditionally enamored with the Apple products as you are. It's not personal towards you, it's my opinion about Apples product priorities. As to why you've chosen to be personally offended, I dunno. You've made a mountain out of a molehill. Stop digging.

I quoted your post in my comments about Apple, I'm confounded as to why the nature of my comments was confusing for you- regardless of whether you made your post 5 days ago or 5 years ago.

You were not previously interested in hearing my frustration with Apples software and design choices. Rather without qualification, you characterized me as a complainer and ungrateful. Your current attempt to backtrack and be interested in the nature of my comments now, smells like a wee bit of revisionism regarding your previous dismissal of my post. It reeks of insincerity and of a man made of straw.

I'm not interested in providing additional reasons as to my frustration with Apple. I said as much as I wanted to initially. The sentiments expressed are not novel or mysterious, but rather common. I'll go out on a limb and say that you may have even heard them expressed by others. For whatever it's worth, my opinion is based on being a longtime user of 25+ years, I've never owned anything but Apple computers. As a user, my experiential and historical context has colored my opinions of which I spoke.

Ciao

Here's a tangent on AI that could belong in any number of threads. NorBro, you're always asking why I'm leery of AI if I'm a Star Trek fan. Kirk and Spock have answers for you.

I recently watched an episode from TOS season 2 titled "The Ultimate Computer" wherein an AI (the "M5") is installed on the Enterprise. All but a skeleton crew is dismissed and the computer is given control of the ship.

Kirk says to the Computer scientist who designed it,
There are certain things men must do to remain men. Your computer would take that away.

Later, after a demonstration of M5's capabilities, Kirk says to Spock, "It was impressive. Might even be practical." Spock replies,
Practical, Captain? Perhaps. But not desirable. Computers make excellent and efficient servants; but I have no wish to serve under them. Captain, a starship also runs on loyalty to one man, and nothing can replace it, or him.

M5 begins killing people in order to expand its control and prevent its deactivation. (As in 2001: A Space Odyssey.) After Kirk paradoxes it into self-destruction (which must be in the Starfleet handbook considering how often they do it), the dialogue goes:
Dr. McCoy : Compassion. That's the one thing no machine ever had. Maybe it's the one thing that keeps men ahead of them. Care to debate that, Spock?

Mr. Spock : No, Doctor. I simply maintain that computers are more efficient than human beings, not better.

Dr. McCoy : But tell me - which do you prefer to have around?

Mr. Spock : I presume your question is meant to offer me a choice between machines and human beings; and I believe I have already answered that question.

I think Mr. Spock is right; computers are more efficient, not better.

As much as you and I have talked about AI, which I believe has always only involved cameras or post-production, I never wanted to live in a world with machines frolicking about.

I actually live with heartaching nostalgia for the 90s on a daily basis, ha.

Gary Kasparov hates computers. So does Vladimir Putin. Gary Kasparov also hates Vladimir Putin.

As to the AI, it's a conditional logic. Modern smartphones are drenched in it. At some point, more and more of the smartphone technologies will be transferred to the stand-alone cameras. By then, it's pretty unlikely anyone will have any interest in the stand-along cameras.

It's going to be put in everything, and they keep working on new stuff a lot of people don't even know about.

Anyone born after 2010-ish was likely swiping at an iPad around birth so AI will be all they know, but I'm sad things will never be slower again.

Ah...perhaps that's life. :birthdays:

It's not the slower I miss, just the human connection. Then they talk about the "metaverse". More human connection! Which is actually none at all

But the slower times very well produced that human connection, don't you think?

You naturally engaged because you had less technology to engage for you. Or influence you. Distract you.

Basically yes... My feeling is that things like AIM chatrooms were more personal and less personal-mass-media than Facebook... Having to memorize people's phone numbers or wait by the phone increased the value of the interaction, perhaps... One thing I like about this forum is the retro vibe. Simplicity. More like actual personal communication as opposed to trying to reinvent it with a capitalistic mindset of utility maximization... Quality over quantity. Something like that

My biggest fear about AI is they turn us into batteries.
(Thx Ahalpert for the distracting topic things were getting pretty serious)

This is what happens when we stop talking about competing cameras and have nothing else left to talk about.
We begin turning on our selves. Getting into more bitter arguments about how our opinions better than one another. Also 8k.

Think of all the Tubular Belles of the Ball that are reviewing the nonexistent cameras in the manner of Jean-Paul Sartre.

A side note: With the smartphones, there have been several attempts over the last decade to make either a phone with an external zoom or a separate wireless camera/lens attachment Zooms (Panasonic) was too large, the external attachment (Sony and Olympus) suffered from other maladies. All bombed. But some day the camera and/or smartphone manufacturers might get it right.
