How do you guys make income with your 7ds and gear?

Please define what you mean by income. Because I dont think I know what that means? I do know that once I got my 7d. I purchased a battery grip, mic, zfinder..crap load of lenses including the canon 70-200 2.8 L IS USM...and bags...and i fell like the energizer bunny.... I just go up in my room and play with them. What have I shot..really nothing. LOL

I make money using the 7D by working for a B2B design consultancy that, at times, communicate our concepts, recommendations, designs, etc. via video.

Funny, sometimes when we're over capacity, the production companies we end up hiring are not even as good as the hobbyist's footage who post their stuff on these forums.

My half joking answer is: Anything but Weddings

My real answer is: So far I have only had 1 successful client shoot, but it was in australia for 2 1/2 weeks, and I'll be editing the content for weeks. I still shoot with the EX1 for most commercial stuff.

My plan is to be available for travel documentary work, but likely most of my clients will continue to be 'save the world' new age gurus wanting to do web content. Can't complain there

Well I use the 5D...but I earn most of my income from commercial shoots. I've developed good relationships with area marketing firms and they are a great asset.

I'm curious how most of the people here use their equipment as working pros.

The camera won't make money alone, your talent, hard work and searching for business will. The telephone is a good place to start. You may be rolling your eyes and saying "daah....", but that's the way it is. Your client is all that is important if you want to make money, don't talk about your camera with them, just talk about you, what they need and how you can deliver. Their 12 year old kid may have a better camera than you.
