How do you guys make income with your 7ds and gear?

"Cash for Charts" sends me a plastic bag full of res charts and I shoot 'em and send them back and they send me CASH!!

On a serious note, I've done two music videos so far with my 7D and accessories. Nothing longer than that yet. Shooting a festival this weekend. Have some narrative work lined up later this year, but hoping to have Scarlet in hand for deep focus shots. Would NOT want to do that with the 7D.

In all seriousness, most of my work is adventure films (fishing, hunting, kayaking, etc.), with most of them advertising/client-supported.

In super seriousness, music videos, corporate product spots for the internet, and some short films for future investment purposes

flash websites is my main income
I don't live from shooting gigs but I do them when they meet my rate and I get a few gigs a month
usually a spec ad, music video or narrative short
I don't do event work (not set up for it really)

shooting events, music videos, behind the scenes for bands, and renting stuff out.

I'm curious how most of the people here use their equipment as working pros.

To make money with a 7D you must first begin by receiving a preproduction camera model.
Next you must make a book and DVD on how to use it to shoot weddings like the pros.
Finally, you must bcome a master of the DSLR Pimp Game.

The first thing to do is put the 7D in a mini skirt and put it down on Santa Monica and Vine - but don't move in on the south east corner. that be my territories.

You may have to smack it sometimes to keep it in line - but there is more about "the game" on my DVD - "Hustlin' With tha 7 Deez"

Buy my Hustlin DVD and you will be big time. I promise.

That and wedding videos.

If you send me 39.99 I'll send you a DVD on how to make money with your 7D.

I'm actually renting my gear along with myself as DP or 1st AC on bigger shoots and I'm starting to make wedding documentary. My dayjob is at a production company doing postproduction mainly, and that's my main income for the last 16 years.

I rent the camera to myself and then take out loans to pay myself back. So far it's working out but my wife seems to think it wont last long. I'm thinking of renting to her as we share the income then we could split it 60/40 and that way I could make 20% more than her.

80% of my income comes from shooting for networks.

The other 20% comes from equipment rentals, indie doc's, commercials, pilots, performance DVD's, BTS for magazine shoots, and self generated production.

I expend 20% of my effort making 80% of my income, and 80% of my effort on the other 20% that I use my gear on...hey, anyone want to buy some of this gear?!
