How do the canon HDV cameras compare to the Sony Z1U?

I've used this camera, and like the quality, but the Canon is cheaper to buy. I would be using this to shoot sporting events. Any help would be appreciated.

I use the A-1 for sports and find it is great for it. Any long gop camera is not perfect for high motion stuff theoretically but I honestly haven't encountered any issues at all yet. I keep hearing that Canon's flavor of HDV is the best out there so I really have no idea how the Z-1 would be. I have come across other people who do sports video proffesionally who were using FX-1's and they said they were fine too. If you get one don't use 24f for sports though.

I own an XHA1, so I could be biased here... but I've used a couple of the Sony HDV cameras and found that they weren't as good as the Canon.
It's lens strikes me as far superior.
Just my 2 cents.

I haven't shot with a Sony but have seen footage side by side with my A1, and am also biased. The A1 handles well; and you'll find having a pallet of presets at your disposal very handy.

They are both pretty good cameras. But if money is an issue go with the the cannon.I work with them both and they are both pretty good in sportcoverage.I can't post any pics. But ..oops thunderstrom ppsot later.
I'm back .
NO 24cf or 24f modes for sport. Use 30f or 60i instead on the canon .
Recently I co-edited a documentary about Kickboxing, that was shot on z1u .The shots of the mainevent looked prettygood. It was shot sd pal with 100 shutterspeed. Those shots looked very dramatic. The lens on the cannon is amazing but the one on the z1u is not half bad.If you will be doing a lot of handheld shot eg papperazi Stuff. i would go for the z1u.
Make sure you get a good tripod if you go for the cannon .20x zoom lens causes more shakiness . Then again if and when you get a naked sportfan on the field the cannon 20xxx lens will come in handy.oh the perv in me .
