how about this price

FYI: I did an online chat with Dell.com sales (US) this morning and they answered some questions:

- As of this moment, Dell.com has the DMC-GH1K in stock. Availability subject to change at any time.
- As noted by the OP, the Dell.com current price is $1,248.46. Prices subject to change at any time.
- Dell.com says they are an authorized Panasonic dealer.
- The GH1 cams Dell.com sells are brand new, the US "NTSC" model, in factory-sealed boxes, with all the standard Panasonic accessories (including the 14-140mm zoom lens, battery, AC adapter/charger, etc.), and include a standard Panasonic US 1-year warranty.
- The Dell.com price currently includes free ground shipping to the lower-48 US States. Shipping charges subject to change.

To the best of my knowledge this is the best deal on a new GH1 from any "major" legitimate US dealer. The Dell.com price even beats Amazon's current $1,369 price. And it spanks the pants off B&H (and others) current prices.

I'm not affiliated in any way with Dell.com or Panasonic. Just passing on the good news. Of course, this deal may evaporate any minute, and a better deal may come along any minute, too. YMMV.

EDIT:

I'm also able to confirm that Panasonic Direct "corporate buy" US is now selling the complete standard GH1 package (cam, 14-140mm zoom lens, battery, charger, US warranty, etc.) through at least some of their "corporate buy" programs for only -- are you sitting down? [grin] -- $1,080 including free ground shipping!!!

As I've mentioned before, if you have a friend or relative who works for a big US company, ask them if they're able to do a "corporate buy" with Panasonic Direct as an employee benefit. It's not that uncommon especially for corporate office workers. Ask around & maybe you can save $$$!

This price is way lower than even the Dell.com new, low price discussed above. B&H & others still sell it for up to $1,499.95 on their websites.

It goes without saying that not all dealers are created equal; some offer money-back satisfaction guarantees, etc. Dell charges a 15% restocking fee on returns not due to an error on their part, and so forth. Ask the dealer before you buy!

I'm guessing Panasonic has lowered the GH1's wholesale price to dealers, and some dealers are able to reflect this in their retail price, while others may be working off slightly older inventory -- or there could be several other possible causes.

I wonder if this new lower pricing signals a forthcoming model change? Eg.: Panasonic is trying to move existing GH1 inventory ASAP to make room for a new version of the GH1 coming out sometime "soon"? (Gee, ya think maybe the new model will have a measly headphone jack & live video out & no pulldown & cleaner video compression? Maybe? [grin])

YMMV!

In Japan the GH1 has been under $1000 for quite some time

But we all know Dell is a common name, but some things I noticed about the site

1. It says Olympus Corporation instead of Olympus (WTF, like it's some bad translation)

2. Pentax's products for some reason RENAME Pentax as a company called Brother - WTF that is the oddest thing I've ever seen.

Anyone try the "Brother K-7" also all of "Brother's" (pentax's) lenses are OUTRAGESOULY OVERPRICED.

WTF

In Japan the GH1 has been under $1000 for quite some time ...

Is that including the 14-140mm zoom lens, standard accessories & Panasonic warranty, factory-sealed box, etc.?

I thought the Japan under $1K price was for the GH1 body only -- at least possibly until recently?

I suspect panny lowered the wholesale price, the old corporate buy price when the cam came out was $1200.

The whole kit!

Know someone in Japan, said they were about $900-999 range for quite some time

Geez, the whole kit for $900-$999 in Japan? How much for just the body in Japan, $400-$500???

Given that the list price for Panasonic's 14-140mm zoom lens is around $800 in the US by itself, it sure sounds to me like they might be clearing out inventory to make room for a new model.

Here's hoping they start shipping a new (GH2?) model almost immediately after 1/1/10! (Well, I can dream anyway ...)

P.S.: GH1 newbies: The Japan GH1 has on-screen menus in Japanese only (no English). FYI!

wow...I feel like I got screwed paying full price or this camera...1500 to about 1000. This really hurts...I'm going to cry now.

or 1250

Sucks, they are $1899(CAD) in Canada and dell doesn't have the deal available on the Canada portal of their site :(
