House 5D Finale first 2 minutes posted online

Good point. I will also add that those postives and negatives have more to do with the camera operator than the camera itself.

I wonder if Red will continue to call the 5D a non-professional tool. :)

No, the camera just has negatives. Period.

And the 5D is still an non-professional video image acquisition tool.

Funny how DSLR "shooters" are just as terrible as RED OWNERS these days.

Hmm....are they allowed to even discuss the show there? <<<On a normal day i would have thought that question was silly...but in light of recent events...who knows..

Probably not... Jim has banned all DSLR talk. I can't blame Red since they have a lot invested in their future releases. Would you pay 10 to 15k on a Scarlet when ur getting a pretty good image from the 5D.

Also, the next versions of these cameras will be considerably better for video in my opinion.

Keep shooting... your Red investment is still solid for now. :)

My point exactly. Its the talent behind the lens that matters and the 5D is good enough.. period.

and yes.. it's the internet.. and your point is?

My point is that you're complaining about RED"s pitchfork and noose mentality... when you're doing the same thing.

We've been beyond the "camera doesn't Matter" point for years... why are you still beating a dead dinosaur? Go shoot something and show us how little the camera matters...

Was I complaining? Please point to where u saw that in my post. My comment was referring to Red stating it was a non-profession tool.

I think your being overly sensitive on the subject. Nevertheless.. if your so bothered by it.. dont comment and move on.

Better yet, I probably won't comment next time cause as you stated, it is the internet.

Please let me know when your ASC membership comes through.

Kum-Ba-Ya Mi Lord....Kum-Ba-Yaahhhh....Ohhhhh....Lord...Kum-Ba-Yaaa........

...ok everybody join in.......Ku......

Its amazing how there has been a constant barrage of "information" about putting these cameras in their place ever since they were released. Chart tests, technical jargon, codec bashing, etc...

So after the firmware updates, ASC Cinematographers' endorsements, episodic television episodes shot on them....its still "not a professional tool."

Tip to the haters, you're fighting a losing battle. Unless shooting for multi-million dollar cinema, get used to others taking a zero off the camera prices in the near future.

Booya!

I picture this happening in the near future :badputer:

lol...I was waiting for that.

If the 5D2 is a crayon compared to the RED's super computer image generating power, then I think the work that the crew of House did in the last episode warrants proud display on anyone's fridge.

All tools have their drawbacks but Gale Tattersal and crew did a great job dealing with 'em. I think episodic TV, cinema, etc has just started a wonderful friendship with this little camera.

...I also think Canon will see what they started and come back with even better DSLR products in the (near) future. We can always hope. I have to be honest...but if they get the aliasing and codec right then I wouldn't even consider a Red product. Not that I have anything againts Red....it's just at this price point and performance....you can't beat it (not even Scarlet).

Well it's well known Canon stumbled across this new market without really knowing it.

I think it's also clear, having realised that, they know they've gotta follow up with something special.

That's why I think the firmware updates were smart b/c it essentially keeps the momentum for this stuff in their court as they go through the inevitably long period of r+d to provide this miraculous next camera.

The only question is now, having listened to all the hollywood dop's and all the prosumers and everyone else, will they actually deliver the next product in the way people want it?

Or, to ask the bigger question, will they consolidate or squander this market they've stumbled across.

Considering panasonic and Sony came out with new models, canon shouldn't be too far behind. They usually seem to react slower than everyone else to begin with. i.e. Just now going tapeless on their video cameras.

considering true blood and geore lucas are digging on them too, there's obviously a lot of traction, so I'd agree with you.

Any tool that's commonly used pros in their field of study should be considered "professional." That could be an apple box or stedi-cam or lens or film stock or camera in our line of work.

To wit, everyone from the Hollywood producers of "House" and "Redhawks," to indie film makers, to wedding shooters, to commercial freelancers have used Canon's Mark II/7D, Nikon's D90, & Panny's GH1 (sorry if I didn't list your baby). Shows/projects with millions of dollars have used these cameras with stunning artistic result. More interestingly perhaps, projects with $200 have used these cameras with stunning artistic result.

More to the point, productions using these cameras have sold their efforts to distributors, networks, clients, et al - all without complaint about "professionalism."

And if that doesn't make the "Big 3" DLSR lines professional, I'm not sure what would...

...An Oscar maybe?

Probably so... But people still bitched about "talkies" for a long time after too, so who knows?

Richard, I thought the same thing but you know…sometimes things are worth repeating to folks who just didn’t get it the first time or to a lot of new guys who…um…forgot to click the search button. But I’m with you….it’s the same old information over and over again.
