As a guy who made some money with a DVX - and is not quite ready to sell it - the main things I missed with that camera were footage that could key reasonably well; footage that could hold up to heavier grading; and at least 1 level of sharp, useful slow motion.
I feel like even the 550D/2Ti delivers wonderfully on those aspects, and I also get a tremendous boost in resolution.
The things I miss? Primarily purpose-built audio, where even the DVX excels. I could get that with the 5D/Magic Lantern combo and a bunch of breakout gear. I miss the built-in ND, and the fairly useful autofocus. I missed the viewfinder but add-ons are getting pretty good.
Funny, what I really miss these days is a top handle - Not so much for shooting, but for convenience during setup & breakdown. Gonna have to kludge something together with rail system parts.
Screw enough stuff onto a DSLR and you can get the utility of the purpose-made video form factor. Assembling and disassembling that stuff was a nightmare, I finally got a flight case, foam, leather and hot glue and made a "throw it all in assembled" case - I really can recommend that approach. $50 total and an afternoon's work:
