F35: Holy smokes, I bought a F35 too

Yeah, Alexas are so cheap right now. Definitely a fun camera for anyone that already has the tripod and recorder for it.

A bit Off topic but maybe not; I ended up building out a little “baby” Alexa over here, still not as good as the F35 but wanted something a bit more manageable for my “hobby” camera; http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?367709-2020-Alexa-sub-5k-baby-edition&p=1986831582#post1986831582

Might be another option since they are going so cheap on eBay now a days...

Interesting but if you do the same with F35 it's sure lighter or not heavier than Alexa? F35 body is lighter than Alexa body.

A barebones F35/IF Box/O7Q build, and a barebones Alexa Classic build are close enough in weight/bulk as to make no real difference.

I built my f35 out like this with the pix e5 but without viewfinder and without the IFbox or multiplexer (so just 24p/25p/30p 10-bit only) and it was definitely lighter, prob by 2-2.5kg- but yeah, locked into those frame rates only. Still I want both an f35 and Alexa lol. Actually I’d love an f35, Alexa studio, aaton aminima, and Penelope while I’m going down that route lol

What is the smallest recorder for F35 currently?

2.5Kg Hunter? I think F35 body alone is 5kg?

I mean maybe as much as 2kg less (delete IF box, no top handle, no evf- just thin v Mount battery and pix e5.) the evf alone almost weighs 3lbs- at least the one I was using with the metal housed optics), the if box is close to 1lb...

I used Atomos Ninja Star by routing the signal through small HD 502. But not recommended, hdmi sucks.

Hunter have you ever gotten to play with Alexa M? I was convinced it could be made into a cheap mini by pulling HD signal from the viewfinder port to record. If this were possible you could ditch the fiber back entirely. There were a few on eBay last year for 5500 but it was a lot of if’s to my theory.

The F35 docks weight a lot. Removing the top dock saved me quite a bit. Inside you can take out the memory stick reader, vf ports, Ethernet and I/o board. Not as much weight but I got a big power boost unplugging these internally. I can get 90 mins on 160wh battery.

I haven't ever seen an M in real life! That sounds interesting for sure, but testing Mon out vs Rec out on the Alexa I def see a difference in quality (when recording to the pix-e5) the Mon out is a lower quality slightly softer image vs the REC out- I wonder if you were able to access the image from the viewfinder if it would be up to the same quality- Im pretty doubtful.

With that said, I ran across a camera I've never seen or heard of before that is basically an Alexa HD but in an ikegami body... it looks pretty small. That might be an Alexa "mini" project lol

You'd need to figure out a way to control the camera and get the HD-sdi working (via Ca-75HD?) but there's a 1.2 motorized ND in there and its literally just an Alexa sensor...

Hey Guys an advice:

As you know I RMA'd my Odyssey 7q. If you remember I said it was working flawlessly until I decided to upgrade my firmware for the very first time. After the firmware upgrade was finished I did a reset and plug-in my sources and all I was getting was a black video, though the Odyssey reported exactly the inputs I was connecting it to. It locked on every signal but it showed black video. Convergent Design did a diagnosis on the device and wrote me the following:

'""
I am sorry to report that Voltaire has completed the diagnosis of your recorder, and found that there is a non-repairable short on the circuit board. Because your recorder is an older 7Q, and we no longer stock 7Q circuit boards, your only option is to upgrade to an Odyssey 7Q+ from us or purchase a used one.

Our price for the 7Q+ is USD 2195. Either way, we will ship your SSD back to you either with the Odyssey 7Q+ or separately.

Please advise how you wish to handle this unfortunate situation
.
"""

Now that sucks because I'm 100% sure that this short circuit was caused by the firmware if that is even possible. Which I think it is not. Something was bricked in there. Now after having having invested big bux on this thing, the suggestion to me is: Buy another sorry.

Thoughts anyone?

It looks like someone got a lot of both now, its gone. Probably outside ebay deal.

I wouldn't have bought it even for less anyway. Its like the hot neighbour girl, its nice to look at it but probably not worth having it.

Was very tempting though. A couple pounds less than the Alexa, internal ND, 8K, global shutter, and draws same power as the F35.... its a great camera.

I know it's a lot of camera for the money, but it's also a lot of camera to deal with.

This is what kept me from it; amazing camera, for sure, but my job will require me to run and gun with gear quite a bit, and the F65 demands more attention than I'll be able to spare it. Some day, maybe.

Really? You wouldn't have bought it for less? Well, if you change you mind one day, I'll sell it to you for $12K.

Ah! We found the buyer!

Not that I didn't want to buy it, trust me I logged in to my bank account a few times to check if I could eat if I did buy it...but I own a F35, I would not buy it for $1,000, unless I could sell it to you for $12,000.

SRW-1 Arrived!

im proud owner of the infamous SRW-1. I just love GOOD old technology, with emphasis on GOOD. What I built quality! sexy Indeed. Something about these old hardware that excites me, mind you my new Odyssey is almost arriving, but I'm for some reason more excited about the 20 pounds of VCR that I'm planning to hang on the back of my F35. This thing is sleek. So sure I will read the manual, but hey! Its more fun to ask it here. So the thing came screwed, yes a bracket that stops me from removing from the SRPC. When I power it up I get a VA: 0103 NVRAM Error. I check the installed options, None. It says no installed options. Ok cool, now unscrewed the bracket separated the Srw1 from srpc and connected to my F35. Holly crap Optimus prime camera. So big but in a cool way. Now the Srw-1 boots without any Error, still no installed cards showing.

Questions:

I'm able to choose 1080psf 444 Hq. Does that mean the card is in there. Or it simply allowing me to choose it but it will never record that. (?). Why did I not check? ( no tape yet, yep!)

What is NVRAM Error?

I'm going to open the srw1 to check if the cards are physically there. If they are not, will someone please sell me the pair, 102,103???

Thank you
