HOLLYWOOD GOTHIC Trailer

Blaine

Mr. Hollywood
Here is the trailer for a feature length movie called "Hollywood Gothic" we shot with the DXV100A. It was a one camera shoot over the month of August 2005. We've been in post production since September 5 and still have a ways to go before it's complete, perhaps 3-5 weeks. We've got the pictures cc'd and locked down and we're working on sound now. Scoring, ADR, sound fx...

We've got a website in the works and I'll post that address next week sometime. It's pretty much complete but we need to do a few final touches on it.

It was a lot of fun but it was also a tremendous amount of work.

This looks like it was a lot of fun to shoot. I don't really have any constructive criticism. It's obvious that your group has plenty of skill and talent to back this up.

A few things I liked a lot:
-the doctor being killed by his creation. excellent comp. and lighting
-the shot of the killer walking into the bathroom
-the shots of them gathering weapons. I loved that 2 piece shovel!

I really liked this, but then, I'm a fan of "B" horror flicks. I think your trailer would be improved with better narration. There really are some great shots here. Keep having fun, it shows!

Marlene

You do have some nice shots! As said before I would definitely improve the narration on the trailer - it sounds like the narrator is trying to hard.
I know you're working on the audio, but make sure your levels aren't clipping - especially on the screams. That really detracts from all the goof stuff you got going on...

Sorry cannot watch it due to this , message ...any idea what it means ..I have Q7 Pro

Yes. I'm having a problem which I'm trying to correct. :(

I am uploading another copy and will post again when it's complete and works.

Congratulations Blaine. Looked like you have some good production value going on.

I like the shot selections to a degree, but the sound and narration was distracting to me. The killer for low-budget production is bad over-resonating sound design. It sounds like a lot of the ...uh, sound was done off camera and without any sound deadening blankets.

The acting was a bit over the top, which may be the point...at the same time there is controlled over the top and good actors playing over the top. I agree that the narration was not good.

Narration and dialogue issues can be fixed....might be a bit expensive and time consuiming, but it might be worth it.

Sorry, that I couldn't be more postitive. If it helps MY first feature sucked. :)

Ah... the narration. Well, next weekend we're doing some ADR and we're set up to replace the narration at that time, too. It seems to be fairly unanimous and we are listening.

Just so you know what we're shooting for here, here's the synopsis:

Caspar DeVries and his film crew want to make a movie in the worst way. By all accounts that's just what they appear to be doing...making a movie in the WORST way, which begs the question - can a movie be so bad it kills? Or is something else bumping off the cast and crew of "Carmilla" perhaps the worst vampire movie ever shot.

And what was Preston Atwood, long time B-film star, thinking when he signed onto the project, hoping to resurrect his faltering career? Now, along with the other members of the cast and crew, they find themselves locked in a creepy old building and defenseless. They must find out what it is that is killing them, if they expect to make it through the night and get out alive.

Thanks Blaine, for not taking criticism the wrong way. i personally like criticism...it shows people are generally paying attention. If people would have been more critical of my script and such on my first feature it might have saved me many tens-of-thousands-of dollars and seven years of headaches....

Who am I kidding. I wasn't smart enough to really listen to peoples advice like you are.

I wish you and your project the very best. There are a lot of avenues for decent revenue nowadays, so I hope it works out for you.

The narration is awful, hope the rerecording is an improvement. I like the cheesy 80's music, and the premise is interesting.

I also think the trailer is too long, or it at least feels that way. I would recommend making it more concise, maybe cut down on the backstory stuff somewhat and bump up the energy a little more. I think if you did these things, and replace the narration, you'll have a cool trailer. Just my opinion, I could be wrong, if so it's a terrible tragedy.

well I got it to work ...no sound though .
I liked what i saw ..I'll try later to see if I can get sound .
I have Q7.0.4

I'm not sure what's going on with that. It was encoded H.264 800Kbps QuickTime 7 Compatible with Compressor. I've tried it out on a Mac and PC (Mac with QT7.0.4 and PC QT ?) and I've also used Safari and Internet Explorer. I'm still trying to get a downloadable version too but each time I try to download it, it fails.

We were going to have the trailer on our website Wednesday but now since we're rerecording the narration this weekend, it probably won't be until next Tuesday or Wednesday.

The movie does look like a lot of fun, and you've got some nice shots, but as far as the trailer goes, I think it's definitely too long. Cut it back, work on the narration and audio, then I think you're all set.

Hi Blaine
It would appear that it is my Q7 , I have installed the newer version but this is the problem , ALL my Q7 files will not play any sound .
Thought I would let you know it is not at your end
