HMC150 questions answered...

i hpe so Barry... :) i will present my work next monday... i have a doubt and i hope you can help me... when i see other videos, they seemto have something diferent, i dont know, maybe the color, or contrast, i dontt know, the images seem to be more professional... like this one: http://vimeo.com/4630198 what should i do to produce a video like that, i mean, what scene file, what to do in pos editing? Thanks again for all your help....

I'm not saying your video was perfection, but for a first pro effort it's not bad at all, and I would think most parents would be quite pleased with what you're delivering them.

When you start getting into the upper echelon of pro videos, there are people out there making $15,000 per wedding video or more. They earn it and they're worth it, to their customers. If you're going to enter the professional event video field, consider attending the WEVA annual convention, there's a ton that can be learned there.

where is it(WEVA)? In US? But, obout the diferences, there is any thing that you can tell me to help me? I mean, they are using the same, hmc150 and letus... i also bought the steadicam pilot, but all together, hmc150, letus35 and nikkon are to heavy for steadicam, so i couldnt use it in steadicam, was made with my hands... with steadicam it wolud be much better... but in another video i used the steadicam, without letus 35 and nikkon, i will upload it another day, but i would like to understand that diference about the color, or pos production effects... thanks

Probably dumb question but one I can't seem to find a good answer for - 4 hours of google searching :badputer:

Saw a thread with a post by Barry that said that the HMC150 records 1080P in a 60i wrapper.

So does this mean when I transcode using cineform etc I should be setting my NLE (Vegas 9c) to use progressive or interlaced? Vegas always see the transcoded files as interlaced (I think it also says top field but not 100% on that) I have been manually changing to progressive for the project and the file.

Same question for 720p 30 and 60...

And another question - do you need to do pull down for any frame rate other then 24p especially when going to DVD.

Thanks!

1080/30p gets recorded in a 60i wrapper.
1080/24p gets recorded as pure progressive, no 60i wrapper involved.

Always progressive.

Same question for 720p 30 and 60...
Always progressive, always at the native frame rate you shot the footage at. So 720/30p would be set to a 720/30p timeline.

And another question - do you need to do pull down for any frame rate other then 24p especially when going to DVD.
No, and on an HMC150 you don't do any sort of pulldown whatsoever. Shoot in native 24p, edit on a 24p timeline, and master out to a 24p MPEG2 file for a 24p DVD. If pulldown needs to be introduced anywhere along the chain, the DVD player will do it for you.

Thanks Barry - one more question if I may...

I bought your HMC book - good read - but have had trouble with your scene files - specifically the "Sftwhite" one.

I've used it twice under floro lighting - once at a football feild and 2nd in a church - and both times I had what I can best describe as Dot Crawl and some blocking.

What changes should I consider in these scenarios?

HMC150 AVCHD Editing in Premiere CS4

HMC150 AVCHD Editing in Premiere CS4

I'm a 1st time poster, and am hoping the input I'm able to receive is able to help me move forward here.

I just recently acquired a new MACBOOK PRO w/ the following specs:

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
OSX 10.6.2 Snow Leopard
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Graphics: (looks like there are two cards?):

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT (vRAM 512) & NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (vRAM 256)

My main purpose in upgrading was to be able to do NLE in the field, but as I'm learning, that may not be the case.

Though I've been using FCP for years on a MUCH slower G4 system, I've now purchased the CS4 Premium Production Package, and am attempting to familiarize myself with Premiere Pro.

I shot an hour of test footage with a PANASONIC HMC150, and loaded the card's files into a desktop folder. I've been able to view the clips in the media manager, and drop them into a timeline, but EVERYTHING IS SO SLOW!!!--even 1 at a time.

I can preview the files with relative ease, but when I start attempting any in/out points, and especially when I try to drag them into my timeline, I get the beachball from hell. And then there's the rendering time, just to normalize (uncompress I assume) the clip. 6 mins of footage the other night took 10 HOURS!!! ...and then Premiere crashed! Nice.

Everything gone.

It crashes and hangs up all the time. For all intensive purposes, it's useless right now.

Soooo...I understand that the monstrous amount of compression needed for AVCHD presents quite a strain on all-but-the most powerful systems. That being said, my MBP is no snail.

Please offer some advice on what I need to do to MAC-simize my system here. Is my graphic card:violin: just not up to snuff? Are their settings w/in the MAC or w/in Premiere that could help me out? Also, I read about people converting AVCHD footage to a more-manageable filetype, and still being able to convert it at full quality.

Please...I'm really hoping that my new $2,300 system is not too weak for AVCHD.

I'm about to test some older SD footage to see if Premiere remains unstable, but REALLY look forward to any help you all might be able to offer.

Thanks, in advance!

Make sure you update Premiere CS4 to the latest version - the stock version was known to have serious problems with AVCHD playback.

I just purchased the HMC150 and could use some help with the best settings for action video in very bright Souther California sunshine. I'll be following fast moving subjects with many slow motion segments. Thanks

720p / 60 sounds like just what you need for the slow motion bits.
