Ok this is strange. I just got an HMC150 and shot some test footage. I put the SD card in my USB reader and it mounts up on both my Powerbook G4 and G5 desktop. These computers don't have Intel chips so I know I can't import to FCP.

However, when I drag the AVCHD folder on to my desktop to copy to the HD nothing happens. It just sits idle. What is going on?

I also have an Intel Macbook. The files copied to that HD just like normal. Do you need an Intel chip to even copy the files from the SD card to your hard drive??

Nope. You shouldn't need that. I'm thinking that you might have a problem with your USB port on the computer or something like that. I copy my footage to my PowerPC and then bring my HD to my buddy's house to transcode as he has a really fast Mac Pro

also.. I think you can use the camera as a HD and import it from that. I'd say to try copying the files from a cam connection to the computer. Haven't done it.. but I think it's possible.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the USB ports, I use them all the time with other devices. And it did the same thing on the G5 & Powerbook.

You probably have a problem with the SDcard reader. I'd suggest trying it with the camera hook-up then. I'm just shooting in the dark on what it might be. I just know that the front port on my Mac isn't good anymore.. so I just figured that might be it.

OK I think it's a bad card reader. I have 2 of the same readers and the other one worked on both the PB & G5. Strange.

One of my card readers did the same thing. Just plug hook up the HMC to the computer via USB (you have to follow the instructions as laid out in the manual) and you should be good to go.

SD vs SDHC card readers

SD vs SDHC card readers

Not all card readers work the same, if it is over 2 years old it probably won't see SDHC cards, as the reader firmware didn't have the specification.

Many newer readers will say SDHC on them.
