Highlight Tone Priority: To Enable or Disable?

thats my question.

its seems like enabling creates better range but also disable the use of lower ISOs below 200

thoughts?

It definitely gives better dynamic range, but it increases sensor noise in the image.

I would only use it if I was shooting ISO 100 with my subject up against a blown out window or the like. At higher ISOs I find the image is degraded far too much.

Check your manual on page 203 where it shows you how to get to it via camera menu, then page 209 is for specific to HTP.

I use HTP a lot.

I find crushed highlights more annoying than noise. But that's a very subjective thing.

turn it off. I made some tests and you get more vertical lines especially in the mid tone areas to black (gradient).

Why don't you try it yourself and see what you like? As this thread has shown already, opinions are divided. Would you really make the decision blindly, based only on the subjective opinions of others?
