High Quality Rig

The Letus baseplate on the Letus rig looks like it would have the same issue as the Zacuto baseplate I was telling you about in the other thread. Look at how much space there is between the 1/4 20 screw that goes in the bottom of the camera and where the rods start. You will more than likely have follow focus issues with shorter lenses if you go with that rig.

Yes you are right. and it looks less custom able then the others.

So its berkry or redrock now...

I like them both, but I do like the shoulder mount of the redrock more.

I have read some support issues on redrock, and I have no idea if the stuff is strong enough and worth the money, on the other side, berkey is not so known as them, I can't find even one opinion on their shoulder rig.

Berkey System does offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you don't like it they will give a full refund and pay the return shipping in the USA. There isn't much to lose with that offer.

Thanks but this is not reason to get it... First I am not from US, and I don't want to buy it just to test and then return it.

I can see a lot for good reviews about Redrock, with support issues, but not even one on Berkey.

Not even one onwer of Berkey or Redrock in this forum?

I've owned some Zacuto, Berkey, Redrock, Letus, and Shoot35 gear. If I were to rank the quality of the gear I own and the gear I've used from each of these companies it would go like this:

1st: Berkey
Close 2nd: Zacuto
Close 3rd: Letus
Distant 4th: Shoot35
Close 5th: Redrock Micro

For customer service:

1st: Berkey
Close 2nd: Zacuto
Close 3rd: Letus
Close 4th: Shoot35
Way distant 5th: Redrock Micro

Close 4th: Shoot35
I got the chance to deal with Wayne(shoot35). I'd rather not get into details but I have to tell you that the customer service was above all expectations.
Take my word for it!

Brian,

Can I ask you what exactly makes you so excited about Berkey Systems?
Their design, softly speaking, is not better than zacuto. The price for a decent DSLR baseplate (not mini) is not the cheapest.

A friend of mine got the whole rig from gini-rig (Speedy7) for $227 which includes the baseplate, two rods, two front handles and shoulder support.
The quality is excellent.

Thanks but how does it help me if they don't have rigs.... :)

This is frustrating like buying the first camera - too many options and everyone just add more and more options but without being concrete...

Meanwhile I started to think of this one - can save few buck if getting the FF in this deal
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...cro_8_017_0010_eyeSpy_Deluxe_Bundle_DSLR.html

question - can I work without viewfinder or the camera screen will be too close?

Thanks

If you are not coming from an Indian ProAim rig, non of them is actually a " High End Rig".
No offense here, they are all nice rigs, but they all based on cheap 15mm aluminum rods and cheap clamps, that tend to get loose, in situations when you need them to be tight - especially the handles.

If you really want something solid, here is my opinion:

This http://www.elementtechnica.com/products/view.php?p=29 is your overall best bet IMHO

Edelkrone - it won the 2011 NAB Black Diamond Award "Best Shoulder Rig"

And yeah, their FF is the sweetest thing.

I have this one: http://www.easom.com/ and I love it. Just add some handles and you are golden

Edelkrone looks great but no prices and no where to buy?

Please keep in mind I am an art student that do some video art and no professional productions... all I want is a nice way to shoot some handheld matifials without buying AF101 :)
And if possible, to stay with smaller rig. for example, I don't want Matt box, I don't need it, and I think its making the configuration too big...

The Edelkrone really looks quite amazing! I'd like to know price on it, too. Probably $2k to $3k USD, I'm guessing.

Not sure if you've looked, but I use the Sidewinder from CPMFilmTool. They have a TON of systems. I was very impressed by the weight and designs.

Totally agree on the solidity and quality of the Gini shoulder rigs. I got the following Gini Pro-10 model for less than $300, and couldn't be more pleased with it:

I've seen the Gini rigs as well, and evaluated one, and I agree that they work well. That said, the communications are VERY lacking. I wrote them with some questions, got a response back weeks later that really didn't answer all my questions, wrote back again for clarification on some questions and suggestions, and then never got anything back.

Agree on Gini's spotty communication. Their pricing also seems to vary over a wide range and shipping costs on sales from their website are shocking. I recommend buying from Gini's eBay store instead (when it happens to have the model you're looking for):

..

I understand, so I would recommend Gini ore CPMFilmTool

I don't like the CPMFilm design and look, and I am ready to spend some, but not 3K$...

Ok I guess I have to keep on looking... I am not sure I want a regular shoulder rig, I have too many questions and can't find answers.

I am not sure I will be able to use the camera screen or should I need viewfinder, is the easyspy configuration is easy to use or unstable etc.
I have never hold a rig in my hands, so I really don't know if I need a shoulder rig, a run n gun style, easyspy or else.

I do know I need something that can hold a Follow Focus, to be small as possible and to provide a handheld ability like I had with my old VX2100 camera.
