High frame rate, low-cost consumer camera

Just picked up the only one B&H had in store stock (NY Superstore).....initial test footage shows TREMENDOUS chromatic aberration and highlight clipping.....not impressed.....this might go back- I hate CA and clipped highlights.......every JVC I've had always has these 2 issues.
Tested using .mov format at 60 fps.......my Mac is reporting data rates of over 39 mbps which is higher than JVC is claiming.....JVC should allow 30 and 24 fps options- why limit to just 60....lower frame rates at 35mbps should allow for higher quality video!
The video is sharp however but the CA and clipping ruins it!

Returned the JVC- I couldn't accept the chromatic aberrations and clipping- at $999 I couldn't justify it.....for a mere $300 more I could get another GH3!

JVC really has to do something about putting out cameras like this- I have yet to be impressed by one of their cameras despite having owned a few prosumer models- they get an A+ for innovative cameras but the quality is just often too lackluster.

(Note: The AF didn't seem to work at 600 fps which was very smeared looking and very low res.....at higher frame rates the AF did seem to work.)

theres also the stupid cheap nikon p310 for 120fps, and canon s100 up to 240, both at sd or lower res, but decent looking aside from the resolution

gopro seems untouched in it's price-quality-framerate

The GoPro is indeed untouched in price-quality. I shot some exploding water jugs with the Nikon and the GoPro. Even though the Nikon has a 5x faster frame rate, the GoPro footage just looks a thousand times better.

Here's the GoPro footage. Some food coloring, some water jugs, and some buckshot, filmed at 240 fps.

The soda bottles at the end are far and away my favorite. I shook 'em up real good, and then shot them with one bullet, to limit the destruction to the plastic and hopefully channel all that carbonated goodness as tightly as possible. :)

Here's the Nikon. Some 1200fps, some 400 fps. It actually looks okay-ish if you don't move the camera, but panning on that grass would reduce it to a field of red and purple flashing.

So for 720p at high frame rate we are left with the GoPro and the FZ200.

Barry do you have an opinion on the FZ200? For us GH2 shooters it looks like a solid solution.

No, never seen an FZ200. I've got a GoPro 3 Black edition, and it's great for what it does. I like the iPhone app that lets you remote-monitor and control menus and trigger recording from a remote location, and it's tiny. But it's really limited in so many ways, such as the fixed lens, where something like the FZ200 has a 24x zoom lens, so ... very different products with very different capabilities.

the fz200 seems ok, it still seems gopro has a step up in IQ

i finally ordered a black, will see what i can come up with to test it out.

Barry have you tried twixtoring your black footage yet?
