Hero4?

Have seen a little buzz around the net about a possible Hero4 update coming soon. Anyone have any inside info on this? Looking to upgrade from my 2 and don't want to do it only to have the next gen drop on me.

I just bought the black, i kinda hope they hold out... just for a little bit longer :P
Plus, considering they have 3 versions of the most recent Hero3... i think from a sales point of view, they may want to let those saturate a little longer.
But yes, 4k, video review from your smartphone/tablet, lower light (or longer shutter speed) for night time lapse... would all be great!

Would be cool if there was an option with a normal lens focal length instead of just super wide.

Their release schedule has been in October and November for the 2 and 3, so if they're on a one year release, it'll be around by Christmas.

They're a consumer product, so having something by the holiday season or CES is more likely than NAB.

A consumer product that is used quite often in professional broadcast applications...

After using the Hero 3 there a couple design changes I'd like to see them make. I want them to modify the cover over the micro SD card slot so it won't come off completely (think of the headphone cover on the back of an AF100), I feel like I'm going to lose it every time I change cards. Also, they need to fix the battery door so that it opens more easily. The battery door on the Hero 1 and 2 were very easy to take off. I find myself having to jiggle the door on the Hero 3 and pick at it with my fingernail to get it open a lot of the time.

I was mostly curious bc I read somewhere of a possible late-July announcement for the 4. Can't find the source now, so it was probably nothing.

Agreed on both counts.

So are clothes pins, *ahem, I mean C47s.

Just saying, I do a lot of work for broadcast sports networks (ESPN, Fox Sports, TNT) that use GoPro cameras for cutaway shots in baseball dugouts and behind backboards (and/or under the stanchions), etc.

GoPro has a significant booth at NAB, so they well recognize that they're used in broadcast applications. However, that doesn't mean that they introduce products at NAB; I don't think they have ever introduced a new product at NAB, have they?

I'm still waiting for them to fix the hero 3. Have you seen the reviews on amazon?
I use Sony action cams for special POV shots in weddings and such. I wanted the hero 3, but simply can't risk that many problems and failures resulting in lost shots/no shots.

Agreed. I've had numerous problems with mine. I would like to see some serious firmware fixes before they delve into a new product.

What problems are you guys encountering? I've used mine several times and the only issue I've run into is when using the iPhone app, sometimes the preview doesn't start, and you have to toggle it off/on to get the preview to work. Other than that, it pretty much works fine.

Locking up. I use one for underwater use with the LCD back, and bitter experience has taught me not to try doing replays on the LCD screen if I'm about to want to do more recording soon. There seems a high chance of it locking out and only curable by removal of battery. Generally though I'm pretty impressed. If there was one improvement I'd like to see it's battery life, but OK, I am using it with the LCD screen and Protune.

To firehawk: last I saw the Sony action cams had the same issue as the early GoPros, a curved front element, which means focussing issues when used underwater. Why Sony brought them out designed as such when that had been one of the big complaints about early GoPros is beyond me.
